One of my favorite things about moving to Tennessee three years ago is the seasons. Having grown up in California, changing seasons were always something out of a storybook to me and living in them thrills me. I can never get enough of each season’s charms—spring’s rainbow of emerging blossoms, summer’s lush canopy of trees, fall’s riot of blazing color, and winter’s subdued hues with the occasional dusting of snow—and I’ll never tire of the way they mark time. 

Of course, the change in seasons entails plenty of practical details, such as making sure everyone has the right clothes and then cycling through the clothes as the weather changes. Although I’ve never had to do it before, I’m realizing that it would make sense to put our out-of-season clothes away when they’re not needed. This is especially true of bulky winter clothing, which takes up so much closet and drawer space. In addition, clothes that sit in the closet unused and unwashed just get dusty. Vacuum compression storage bags are a space-saving way to store bulky winter items and one of my favorite ways to store clothes. While fluffy down and other materials used to make winter clothing insulated keeps you warm, it also makes winter clothing bulky and hard to store. Vacuum compression bags make them as flat as possible, saving a significant amount of space. Double-zip seals and triple-sealed valves prevent air leakage and thick, durable layers of plastic mean these bags can be reused year after year. I always put vacuum-sealed clothing in plastic storage bins, but they could be used on their own. The included hand pump is great for travel, but can also be attached to a vacuum for even faster deflation at home.
