12 Cozy Comforters on Amazon for Absolute Bedtime Bliss
Evaluating the best comforters on Amazon involves a certain degree of Goldilocks-esque testing. You don’t want to feel too hot or too cold, be smothered in feathers or fabric, or use a comforter that leaves you shivering in winter. And regardless of the season, it’s gotta feel juuuuust right. There are plenty of popular duvet inserts and comforters out there that are fluffed up with feathers for superior warmth, along with some down alternatives with a microfiber filling, and we’ve done our due diligence to curl up under as many of them as we can.
Below, you’ll find the fruits of our testing labor, with insights from our very own staffers and contributors, plus a handful of additional picks for budget shoppers that we haven’t had the liberty of trying ourselves (yet) but think are worth a second glance—based on reviews. Here, a range of cozy options that ship out in a jiffy, with the option to tack on a duvet cover separately. During the Amazon Big Spring Sale—taking place from March 25 through March 31—you can score some of these bed covers for a great deal. And for more info on how we chose these comforters, skip on down below.
Our Top Picks for the Best Comforters on Amazon:
- Fabric: Eucalyptus lyocell cover and fill
- Sizes Available: Twin/twin XL, full/queen, and king/California king
- Fill Power: N/a
- Machine washable?: Yes
Buffy is one of our all-time favorite brands for eco-friendly comforters that can gently lull you into sleepiness, and two of their greatest hits made this list: the Breeze and the Cloud (below). Choose your own adventure based on how you like to sleep, but know that the Breeze is a favorite of multiple editors on our staff for its stylish wavy seams (inspired by Maya Lin’s Storm King Wavefield) and pleasant yet not overbearing warmth.
Our commerce director Rachel Fletcher particularly loves the cooling hand feel of the outer shell: “Because I sleep with the comforter on its own, I can attest to the softness of the eucalyptus material. It feels really nice against the skin,” she says. Our associate commerce director Lori Keong, who tends to run hot at night, also sleeps under the Breeze during the winter months and finds that it’s very cozy, despite its breezy branding.
- Fabric: Tencel lyocell shell with recycled PET fill
- Sizes Available: Twin/twin XL, full/queen, and king/California king
- Fill Power: N/a
- Machine washable?: Yes
In the thicker, weightier territory is Buffy’s Cloud comforter, which has a puffy fill that’s sourced entirely from recycled PET bottles. If you’ve ever worn a down-alternative puffer jacket made from the stuff, you know that this material is very warm. All that fill lent this comforter the ideal coziness for our senior design editor Sydney Gore, who describes it as “light, soft, breathable…everything you would ever want in a comforter that stays on your bed all year round.” For people who tend to burn up at night (or want a lighter-weight comforter that can be used with or without a cover), we’d suggest the Breeze instead.
- Fabric: Cotton cover filled with down feathers
- Sizes Available: Twin/twin XL, full/queen, and king/California king
- Fill Power: 700
- Machine washable?: Spot clean recommended
Brooklinen is another formerly D2C bedding purveyor that has started selling goods here and there through Amazon. Their down comforters are one such hot commodity that can be shipped out to you on a time crunch, though sizing availability varies a little more here than directly at the site. Our tester Rebecca Grambone, AD’s social media manager, opted for the warmer version of this comforter, saying, “It felt very high-quality and luxurious and gave off strong hotel-bed vibes,” with just a few feathers that have eased out of the cover during testing. We’d still recommend Brooklinen’s all-season comforter with 700 fill power for a wider swath of sleepers, though, which happens to be slightly cheaper too.
- Fabric: 100% organic cotton shell filled with down feathers
- Sizes Available: Full/queen and king/California king
- Fill Power: Not listed
- Machine washable?: Yes
And for people who want the best and bougiest bedding out there, Boll & Branch also sells a down duvet insert made from cruelty-free down fill wrapped up in an OKEO TEX–certified cotton cover. This one’s for anyone who frets about material sourcing, like AD PRO senior editor Mel Studach, who had this to say about it: “It’s simultaneously breathable and snug and allows for a great night’s sleep.”
- Fabric: Polyester cover with microfiber fill
- Sizes Available: Twin, twin XL, full, queen, oversized queen, king, California king, oversized king, super king
- Fill Power: N/a
- Machine washable?: Yes
And though we haven’t had a chance to call this one in to test yet, we had to mention it based on the glowing reviews (31,000 and counting) alone. Another Amazon bestseller, the $35 Bedsure comes in a set complete with two matching pillow shams. That’s a pretty unbeatable deal—especially if you’re just hoping to buy something for the guest bedroom. The down-alternative comforter has a microfiber filling and has multiple color options to choose from, so you can decide whether to display it without a cover. Best of all: It’s available in pretty much every bedding size under the sun.
- Fabric: Eucalyptus lyocell cover and fill
- Sizes Available: Twin/twin XL, full/queen, king/California king
- Fill Power: N/a
- Machine washable? Dry cleaning recommended
Hot sleepers have found comfort in Sijo’s lineup of breathable bedding. When former ADIY editor Yelena Alpert tested out the AiryWeight, she said the cooling comforter was an immediate standout thanks to the 100% lyocell cover and fill. “It’s my go-to duvet insert for those in-between months of spring and early fall, when the weather is just chilly enough to want something cozy,” she notes, also adding that it is as durable as it is luxurious. “You can see and feel the quality, especially when you take a closer look at the stitching,” Alpert says.

Founded in 1931, Serta has nearly a century’s worth of experience in the industry and is considered one of the top mattress brands—but mattresses are only one section of their catalog. Take this down comforter, for instance, which is made with white goose feathers and down and has a 100% cotton shell. Take note that this has a sewn-in box construction, so it’s less insulated than a classic baffle-box comforter and less expensive than most of its competitors. That said, nearly 700 five-star reviewers give it high marks for the high-quality stitching and palatable price point, and many shared it kept them warm year-round (even during frigid Midwestern winters).

While many comforters should have a duvet cover, this one comes in 21 colors and has quilted stitching to display in your guest room.
How We Chose the Best Comforters on Amazon
When pulling together a list of comforters for this list, we zeroed in on comforters that we already tested first, from Buffy to Boll & Branch. We then filled in the gaps with other well-reviewed contenders. For options we hadn’t personally tested, we tried to select ones that had at least a hundred reviews among them (if not thousands), where shoppers indicated that their purchase was well-made, warm, and fairly easy to take care of.
Across the board, we considered the following factors in our rankings and categorizations:
