Bold Boucle

A rug can be both a functional necessity and a luxurious statement piece, like in this stunning bedroom by Sarah Tract Interiors. A thick, plush carpet from Stark blends white boucle with leather, creating a linear look that feels both modern and inviting.
A Colorful Foundation

A vibrant, multicolored rug can create cohesion by unifying various design elements. In this bedroom, interior designer Piper Skillman used the client’s own rug as the guiding inspiration, pulling together blue, red, gold, and soft beige hues. These colors were then echoed in textiles, paint, lamps, and furniture finishes to create a cohesive, layered look.
Perfect Placement

In larger primary bedrooms, it’s important to consider how furniture interacts with the rug. “We either keep our seating groups completely on or completely off the rug,” says Sarah Hargrave, owner and principal designer of the Collective Interiors. “We prefer case goods like dressers and nightstands to be off.”
Here, a subtly patterned, pale blue rug aligns with the base of the nightstand.
Tone-on-Tone

A tonal, patterned rug can add drama without overwhelming a space. The Dash Rug, a collaboration with designer Jen Talbot and manufacturer Art+Loom, features oversized lines in a hand-knotted low pile. The result is a subtle yet striking effect.
Moroccan Rugs

“In this little girl’s room, we opted for a Moroccan wool rug with a beautiful organic grid pattern,” says Amy Konarzycki, founder of Studio AK. “It’s soft enough to sit on and feels wonderful underfoot.” Its lines and texture also pair perfectly with the side table and geometric drapes.
Calming Contrast

“For mostly neutral bedrooms, adding a rug with a bold color is a great way to ground a space,” says Jennifer Jones, principal designer at Niche Interiors. According to Jones, mixing cool hues like blues and greens with soft neutrals can create a calming yet visually compelling contrast.
Tailored Texture
Mandy Cheng
This textured rug from Armadillo was specifically selected to connect with the custom fringe bed frame. “The spacing between the ribs is aligned in such a way that it creates the impression of the fringe continuing onto the floor,” says designer Mandy Cheng.
This thoughtful integration of texture makes the space feel intentional and cohesive.
High-Low Piling
J Beget Designs
High-low pile rugs mix different textures and patterns, adding another layer of visual interest to your bedroom. Jennifer Beget, owner and principal designer of J Beget Designs, recommends using these rugs in conjunction with color drenching. Here, for example, the plush, high-low pile rug enhances the top-to-bottom neutral palette.
All-Over Texture

“This rug was a very special and unique concept for the space,” says designer Sarah Tract. The amorphous green rug climbs along multiple dimensions of the room, even going up the wall and down to the floor behind the headboard.
“It’s by no means your typical use of rug and materials, but it adds so many layers and depth to the space as a whole,” she adds.
Balancing Hues
“In this primary suite in Houston, we used the rug as a soft neutral foundation to balance the room’s vibrant color,” says designer Jessica Bandstra, owner and head of design at Dogwood Proper. “The rug is a viscose blend, giving it a silk-like sheen that really elevates the space.”
Its placement under the bed frame was strategic, ensuring that the rug’s more delicate materiality and detailing remain pristine yet visible.
A Personal Touch

Made from certified New Zealand wool and lustrous bamboo silk, this initial rug from June St. George makes a graphic and personal statement in the bedroom.
“With your initials woven into the design, it adds a meaningful, bespoke element that celebrates family and heritage,” says Ally-Catherine Trenary, the brand’s founder.
Two-Tone Texture

In this serene, neutral bedroom by Sarah Tract Interiors, a subtle yet effective rug helps to tie the space together. “It was one of the last pieces of the puzzle when designing this bedroom,” says Tract. “We wanted something soft on the feet but not too gray and not too white. It is the perfect mix of both tones.”
Sink into Sheepskin

When designing this bright bunk room, interior designer Dana Schwartz achieved a youthful look that would grow with her clients’ grandchildren. She opted for a plush Australian sheepskin rug from Overland beneath the two swinging chairs, which created a soft, beautiful landing.
“When designing this bunk room, it was all about playful, elevated textures,” she says.
Go Geometric

Sometimes, playing into straight lines and right angles can help to round out an interior design scheme. “A hand-knotted wool rug felt like the perfect balance of pattern and color for this monochromatic primary bedroom,” says Gabriela Eisenhart, founder of Silo Studios. “I was drawn to how the geometric, Moroccan-inspired pattern played against the hand-painted wallpaper and the simple boucle bed and draperies.”
Oversized Pattern

This bold rug from Villa Nova plays up the brand’s strawberry patch pattern on a grand scale. “A simple yet effective way to inject texture, tone, and a sense of fun into bedroom schemes is through accessories like rugs,” says Emily Mould, the brand’s design director. The result is a playful and visually striking retreat that’s perfect for little ones.
Wool Weaves

This hand-knotted, 100 percent wool rug from furniture brand Blu Dot makes a statement through color, pattern, and touch of fringe. Dubbed the “Right On” rug, its materiality makes for a durable yet soft choice—perfect for under-bed spaces.
Playful Shapes
One way to add some flair in the bedroom is to lean into unconventional shapes. This playful “Lava Bubbles” rug from Art+Loom combines texture, pile, color, and shape to create a dynamic design that complements the bedroom’s wallpaper.
