Cleansers
Doing the dishes doesn’t have to be a drag: “This dish soap, courtesy of Courtney Cox’s Homecourt, smells good enough to make me enjoy washing my dishes just a little bit,” says commerce director Rachel Fletcher. “I also enjoy the elevated packaging and feel like it makes my sink just a little more sophisticated.”
Preston Lane is made for home fragrance fans. Their signature set not only boasts plant-based formulas to keep your space free of harmful chemicals, but the fine Italian fragrances in their products makes senior commerce editor Nashia Baker feel like she’s “walking through Florence with a spritz of the all-purpose spray.” Her favorite scent is Highrise, which features notes of red currant, velvet plum, and amber, but there are three other fresh varieties to choose from.
Another pick for doing the dishes, Baker loves this foaming soap, noting that it offers a “satisfying” cleaning experience rather than your typical liquid version. “Seventh Generation tops off the experience with an inviting, fruity fragrance and a residue-free formula to keep all of my kitchenware shiny and clean,” she says.
You may recognize Mrs. Meyer’s from the local grocery store, but it’s a solid set of cleaning supplies that’ll tackle every surface of your home. “From spray cleaner to hand soap, their plant-derived products pack a punch on grime without leaning on harsh chemicals,” says commerce producer Lauren Arzbaecher. “I’m particularly fond of their seasonal Iowa Pine scent (you can take a girl out of the Midwest…), but the lavender is always a great pick when the limited-edition scents are out of stock.”
Flamingo Estate is known for their culty tomato candle, but the household cleaner version of it is just as good to clean and fill the air with an earthy aroma. “The weighty glass bottle it comes with is ideal for refilling when it’s used up, and the cleaner itself is not too harsh, so you can use it on all kinds of surfaces from counters to furniture without messing up the surfaces,” Lori Keong, associate commerce director, says. “I also love that my counters leave smelling fresh and herbaceous and green afterwards, especially in the kitchen, a place that the Lord intended to smell like good cooking anyways.”
Versatility is at the core of Branch Basics’ line, as you can use its clean products everywhere from the washing machine to mop water. Baker mixes the concentrate with water in the included spray bottles and uses the solutions most often as a gentle glass cleaner or hard floor cleaner. Plus, she says the oxygen boost is a standout. “I always use this to whiten the grout in my bathroom and in my loads of white laundry as a bleach alternative,” she notes.
Both clean and aromatic, Blueland’s collections are a mainstay in our editors’ bathrooms. “Clearly I’m a bit of a fragrance freak (and Blueland checks those boxes), but they also have a deep commitment to sustainability that I very much appreciate in what is a classically very wasteful space,” Fletcher says. “Their toilet bowl cleaner is also a favorite!”
Tools
With all of the latest and greatest home tech out there to clean your space, don’t forget about an old-fashioned broom and dustpan to get the job done. “You know you’re getting old when you ask for a high-end dustpan for Christmas, but that’s actually what I did this past year as I was getting tired of flimsy plastic ones that get discolored with years of dust and debris,” says Keong. In her book, Redecker—a family-run German company that specializes in handmade brushes—is a must for home cleaning. “The whole set is super elegant and handy for cleaning up little messes before you go in with a vacuum,” she adds.
When it comes to decluttering, Arzbaecher points to these bins to keep her space organized. “From holding various teas and drink accessories on a beverage cart to storing my makeup essentials, I use them all around the house,” she says. “They hold more than you’d think, are easy to wipe clean, and come in a variety of sizes (with an optional clear lid), so you can customize them based on your organization needs.”
Another tool to make doing your dishes a little more spirited, Fletcher recommends these sparkly sponges from Hawkins New York. “I impulse purchased these in a tiny shop upstate last year and thought I’d feel silly scrubbing with something so seemingly impractical,” she notes. “It felt like a peak design editor thing to buy fancy sponges, but it really is the little things sometimes.”

“The Coway Airmega True HEPA Purifier is a breath of fresh air—literally,” Baker says. “I’ve talked about it at length in our roundup of the best air purifiers, but to make a long story short, it easily rids my space of cooking smells and allergens during the change of seasons—which is especially helpful with pollen filling the air this spring.”
Want to take a hands-off approach to spring cleaning? Then this robot vacuum—a favorite of Arzbaecher—is a great option. “This Roomba keeps up with the seemingly endless amount of hair that builds up on the floors of a home with three women living in it, and is a big time-saver when it comes to keeping our space clean,” she says. “The iRobot app is smartly made and easy to work with, logging maps of where it’s cleaned so you can send the vacuum on routes to specific rooms if one needs a little more love.”
Deep cleaning upholstery just got a whole lot easier with this handy home appliance, which is a longtime bestseller on Amazon. “Bissell’s Little Green Machine is a gadget I’ve heard about for years, and after giving the mini version a whirl, I completely understand why,” says Baker. “It removes surface stains from my carpets and upholstered furniture with ease using its strong suction power, stain tool, and cleaning solution.” She also notes that the carpet cleaner’s smaller footprint is portable and perfect to store in tight spaces.
The Shark Wet Dry Vacuum Mop is Baker’s recommendation to anyone who wants the best two-in-one vacuuming and mopping experience imaginable. One of our top-rated Amazon vacuums and wet-dry vacuums, she seamlessly navigates the intuitive cleaner throughout her home “with its narrow, cordless design and pivoting motorhead to get in tight spaces.”
Designed to pick up everything from lint to pet hair, this Dyson vacuum has been a complete game changer for commerce writer Julia Harrison’s cleaning routine. “I vacuum my room four days a week instead of twice a month on account of how easy it is to use, store, and charge this vacuum,” she says. “It’s incredibly efficient, powerful, holds a charge, and dust cowers at this thing—literally, you see it shake from its vibration before getting sucked up into the chamber. I can’t believe we ever lived with corded vacuums.”
“If you get tired of scrubbing shower tiles to get them squeaky clean like me, then this power scrubber will be a refreshing change for your routine,” says Baker. While it has two cleaning heads, Baker uses the narrow cleaner most often to clean grout and the wider, multipurpose cleaner to freshen up faucets and every other crevice around the bathroom—no sponges or elbow grease necessary. “It’s been a helpful, powerful tool to agitate soap scum instead of having to scrub—slowly—by hand,” she adds.
This multifaceted Dyson appliance packs air purifying, humidifying, and cooling power that Harrison can’t get enough of. A noteworthy quality is how quietly it cleans the air in her space. “It’s not a presence you can feel so much as a presence you can notice,” she says. “The dust bunny frequency is down by at least half.”
