3 Super Simple Decor Tricks I Picked Up From Bobby Berk’s TikTok
Bobby Berk is an expert at interior design, and beyond his stint on “Queer Eye,” he has also written two books on the subject and continues to share his expertise. Thankfully, one of the places he shares his hacks is on TikTok, where the rest of us can benefit from having an expert interior designer in our pocket.
Here are three of the hacks Berk recently posted that not only fix small (yet noticeable) things around the house, but are also low effort and low cost.
Smart Plugs
Everyone wants some kind of fancy smart house, but all of the different upgrades and wiring can be costly and timely. Berk’s suggestion: install smart plugs.
These are small charging cube-like blocks that can plug into any outlet, and provide you with an outlet all the same. The only difference is this little middleman can be remote (or bluetooth, depending on the model) controlled. Say goodbye to getting up to turn off the lights, TV, or really anything ever again.

Paint Syringe
As soon as I saw this one, I thought “how have I never thought of this before?” This extremely low-lift hack uses a syringe to fill an empty paint pen tube. Then, just use the paint in the newly filled paint pen to cover bumps and scratches on the wall. This is an easy hack for people who have spare cans of paint sitting in the garage and want their walls looking as crisp as the day they were first painted.
Affordable Lanterns
In this video, Berk goes to Chinatown in L.A. to source some affordable lighting options. (These are actually the same lighting features used in the smart plug video as well.) He picks up a few flat-folded paper lanterns that at first glance don’t really seem like a big deal, however, we can see that this lighting option makes all the difference for any space.
If you’re stuck using overhead lights or simply want a change of pace, try your local dollar store or Chinatown equivalent to see if you can maybe score something understated, but different.
