6 Unique Plants Nobody Will Guess You Bought at Costco
If you’ve never browsed the plants that Costco has to offer, consider looking around on your next trip. Beyond the standard plants, Costco often has some really unique and unexpected options to offer variability to your houseplant jungle.
Here are six unique plants Reddit users found at Costco that you can, too.

If you think plants really aren’t your thing, consider an option that doesn’t require soil. Forget over or underwatering your plant, these plants only need water. The only thing you have to do is replenish the water (ideally filtered) when roots are no longer submerged, and sit back and watch your new plant thrive.
Redditors found (and loved) anthurium, strelitzia (commonly known as the bird of paradise), and the beautifully variegated ctenanthe at Costco, all already thriving and ready to go home with their new plant parent.

Ginseng Ficus Bonsai

If you’ve ever wanted a bonsai for yourself but don’t know where to find one, Redditors say Costco’s your place. Various users rave about finding a Ficus microcarpa and the different care they give it. For a practice in zen houseplant care, try pruning your new bonsai semi-regularly to maintain its shape.
Prayer Plant

For a plant with a lot of personality, look for a prayer plant at your local Costco. Various Redditors were excited to share the realization that this guy is a real mover and shaker: Prayer plants are called this because at night their plants fold up like praying hands.
For variability and a little bit of daily excitement, take a picture of your plant in the morning and at night to show people just how lively it is. And this is all without mentioning the variegation and color variety on the leaves—from light green to purple to dark green and at times white.
Chameleon ZZ Plant
Most houseplant connoisseurs know the easy-care ZZ plant, but the chameleon ZZ is its own sight to behold.
The leaves grow lighter at the top of the plant to a pale green color that makes it a stunning decorative piece, and its undersides are often paler than the tops of the leaves. This gradient makes the plant feel taller than it is, and makes people stop and look twice the way they might not for your average ZZ.
Redditors say they found chameleon ZZs right when the variety was becoming popular (and possibly created), and for much more affordable prices than they were seeing online.
Ring of Fire Philodendron

Redditors can not stop talking about the ring of fire philodendron from Costco. It seems like everyone is surprised to see this somewhat rare variety sold at a big box store, and at a very affordable price point.
This sought-after plant has stunning variegation when thriving; it can sport leaves that are half green and half white down the middle, freckled, or splotched. No matter how yours turns out, it’s guaranteed to add visual interest to any room it lives in.

Ti plants, also known as good luck plants, are beautifully variegated pink and green houseplants. Redditors seem continuously surprised to find them, and various varieties of them, at Costco. These can be kept as houseplants or planted in a garden outside, but they develop more pink in colder temperatures. Be sure to care for them correctly, though, because they much prefer tropical temps.
