7 Things A Professional Organizer Always Buys At Walmart
Organizing a home can be an overwhelming task when every room needs a little work. Organizing can also feel like a big investment after you take into account what you may need to tackle a big project like a basement or playroom.
Thankfully, organizing doesn’t have to be an expensive project. Tonia Tomlin of Sorted Out, a professional organizing company in Dallas, Texas, says Walmart is a great place for anyone trying to organize on a budget.
But before any organizing can begin, Tomlin says the job starts at the store.
“People who are organizing need to consider what they are bringing into the home before they buy something,” Tomlin tells Southern Living. “We live in a consumer world and half of organizing is a consumption problem, not an organizing problem.”

Ready to tackle your messiest rooms? Here are items that a professional organizer will always pick up on a trip to Walmart.
Tomlin says these open front clear bins are the top item she reaches for during a trip to Walmart.
“I like these bins because they are comparable to the ones at Container Store, and these are less expensive,” she says.
When tackling bathrooms, Tomlin chooses this 10-piece modular storage system from The Home Edit, because they’re clear–which makes items easy to see–and also “very easy to clean.”

For bedroom organization, Tomlin turns to fabric storage boxes. The collapsible boxes with lids–and durable handles–come in multiple sizes and colors.
“I like these bins for sweaters and clothes, and you can label these,” Tomlin says.
Every parent may shudder when they enter their child’s playroom for one simple reason: it’s a disaster. Tomlin says cube storage is the way to go when it comes to corralling the mess.
“I like this ClosetMaid product for playrooms, because it is functional–and cute too,” she says.
The cabinet under the sink might be best classified as “shut the door and forget it’s there” for many houses, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Tomlin says this two-tiered storage system, which features a pull-out drawer on the bottom, is the answer.
“I love these under-cabinet organizers for under kitchen sinks,” she says. “You must go vertical with your space under the sink.”
Don’t let the basement, garage, or shed intimidate you when it comes to figuring out how to store everything from documents and books to old clothes and family mementos. These 20-quart bins lock out air, moisture, dust, and pests, ensuring everything you’re storing stays protected.
“They are clear and stackable,” Tomlin says, adding they’re ideal for spaces like garages or basements.

Trying to make your living room look put together, but not quite sure what it needs? Tomlin suggests a three-shelf bookcase, which is available in four colors for less than $30.
“These bookcases are great, because they have adjustable shelves,” she explains. “You can (also) add baskets to make it look nice.”
