8 Kitchen Hardware Trends to Instantly Upgrade Your Cabinets
Kitchen hardware is just like jewelry—an eye-catching finishing touch. If you want to freshen up your kitchen and don’t want a full remodel, the easiest place to start is with a change to new hardware, and trends provide great inspiration.
In 2025, expect a shift towards bold, oversized hardware, mixed finishes, and clever design that puts functionality at the forefront. We asked designers about their favorite kitchen hardware trends for cabinets and drawers right now. Here’s what they had to say.
- Christina Giaquinto, professional organizer at Modular Closets
- Sarah Tiedeken O’Brien, interior designer and partner at Vertical Arts
Brass or matte black
“Kitchen hardware in brass or matte black is growing in popularity and for good reason,” Christina Giaquinto, professional organizer at Modular Closets, says. Brass exudes a warmth that suits many different decor styles and in light-colored kitchens, matte black hardware creates a striking contrast. “I love this hardware trend because it adds personality to a kitchen without overwhelming the space,” she says.
Push-to-open designs
Giaquinto says some homeowners are forgoing handles altogether and selecting cabinets with push-to-open mechanisms. They reduce visual clutter and offer a sleek design for child- or pet-proofing.
“I love this hardware trend because the drawers and cabinets are easier to clean, as there are fewer crevices for grime to collect,” Giaquinto adds. “They’re also great for high-traffic kitchens because hardware isn’t there to catch on clothes or impede on any movement in the space.”
Finger pulls and edge pulls
If push-to-open cabinets and drawers seem too modern for your liking, finger and edge pulls are great minimalist alternatives.
“Finger pulls are small and discrete cutouts in the cabinet or drawer itself, and edge pulls are mounted along the edge of the cabinet/drawer door,” Giaquinto says. “These hardware options help to create a streamlined, modern look in a kitchen. Pulls are great for small kitchens that have tight space to maneuver. This hardware provides easy access without protruding too far and possibly catching on clothing.”
Integrated hardware
“Integrated hardware is all the rage right now and can be beautiful and practical when done right. Tab pulls are minimal and discrete while still providing an easy-to-use handle for everyday use,” says Sarah Tiedeken O’Brien, interior designer and partner at Vertical Arts.
This cabinetry’s uninterrupted surface works well for various kitchen designs, including modern, contemporary, transitional, and traditional.
“Fully routed-in pulls are another sleek way to provide a minimalist look without sacrificing the convenience of a pull. You can use prefabricated metal extrusions or route the pull profile into the cabinet door for an even sleeker look,” says O’Brien. They work best with flat-panel cabinets paired with matte finishes, natural wood, and handle-free kitchen islands.
Satin finishes
“Hardware with a satin finish exudes a subdued elegance and will help give a kitchen a sophisticated, warm aesthetic,” Giaquinto says. This trend is so popular because the satin finish is resistant to smudges and fingerprints which makes clean-up even easier.
Oversized cabinet pulls
While handle-free designs are popular, the opposite, oversized cabinet pulls, are also trending in the maximalist direction. Giaquinto says this hardware option is used to make a statement in kitchens and is especially popular in kitchens with tall cabinets or wide drawers.
Try antiques, repurposed, or custom-made pulls with texture to add a high-end, luxe feel to any kitchen.
Decorative special knobs and pulls
Homeowners are increasingly seeking ways to add personality, flair, and authenticity to their spaces. Decorative unique knobs and pulls made of different materials, such as wood or stone, offer a tactile contrast to sleek surfaces. They also add texture and craftsmanship that feels personalized.
Special knobs and pulls are trending and can add a little flair to an otherwise normal-looking kitchen. “Think acrylic or cast glass,” suggests O’Brien. “Use these pulls minimally for a special moment in your kitchen space. Putting them on a built-in desk area or coffee bar area can make these spaces feel more special.”
Soft-close mechanisms
Soft-close mechanisms are both trendy and practical because they prevent cabinet doors and drawers from slamming shut. They offer a smoother, quieter operation. “I love this trend because soft-close mechanisms inflict less wear and tear on kitchen hardware,” Giaquinto says. “This is particularly valuable for families with young children and anyone who wants a quieter cooking and dining experience.”
