8 Spring Dress Trends That Experts Say Will Dominate This Season

If you’ve been looking for a good reason to do a little clothes shopping, consider this your sign. The seasons are officially transitioning, and it’s time to start thinking about swapping out those chunky cable knit sweaters and oversize jeans for warm-weather frocks. For some wardrobe inspiration, we asked fashion pros to dish on the season’s biggest spring dress trends. From cherry red palettes to sculptural silhouettes, here’s what’s slated to be big for spring 2025.

  • Rob Behnke, co-founder and stylist at Fair Indigo
  • Brian Lim, fashion expert and clothing brand founder
  • Jeanel Alvarado, retail expert and founder of RetailBoss

Sculptural dresses are a big yes for spring 2025, which play into a larger trend we’re seeing in fashion of embracing architectural shapes, says Rob Behnke, co-founder and stylist at Fair Indigo.

He says the trend has really taken off since January and that you can expect even more as we head into spring. His pro tip when styling this dress style is to cool it with accessories. “You’ll want to let the dress do the work here,” he says. “You could also go with minimalist footwear, too.”

Pink has been a go-to hue for spring year after year, but there’s a new girl in town and she doesn’t hold back. Cherry red has taken center stage; we saw it at Ferragamo via the fashion house’s asymmetrical dresses, and Balmain showed off structured, satin-finished ensembles in the same vibrant hue. This spring 2025 dress trend also aligns with Pinterest’s 2025 palette, highlighting cherry red as a statement color for the year.

3D Florals

We know, we know—florals aren’t exactly groundbreaking for spring. This expected dress trend comes with a fun twist, though: multidimensional embellishments.

“This 2025, florals are blooming more than ever with hyper-realistic 3D enhancements such as appliqués, embroidery, and fabric sculpting,” notes Brian Lim, fashion expert and clothing brand founder. “These dresses are influenced by couture runways and creatively crafted red-carpet looks that create a dynamic, tactile aesthetic.”

To tone down the drama for everyday styling, he recommends pairing the dresses with sleek, minimal footwear like strappy heels or classic flats.

Retro glam gorgeousness is officially here, and we’re seeing it everywhere from formal red carpet events to happy hour to street style. Jeanel Alvarado, retail expert and founder of RetailBoss, says that Sabrina Carpenter—who swapped her Y2K aesthetic for ‘50s and ‘60s glam—has a big role in this spring 2025 dress trend taking off.

“We can expect to see more vintage-inspired cocktail dresses—mini or above-the-knee—with high sequin, pleated, ruching and fringe, as well as midi or knee-length dresses with both light and airy fabrics like chiffon, linen and organza,” says Alvarado. She adds, “Many of the new styles make a twist out of a classic by designing with modern necklines such as square, halter, strapless, and plunging.”

Boho Vibes

The boho trend is enjoying quite the spring 2025 revival. We saw it at Chloé via ruffled and bouncy silhouettes, and Isabel Marant’s runway further embraced the aesthetic via fringed hemlines and tassel accessories. For dresses, this season’s boho chic is characterized by flowing fabrics, intricate lace details, and a fusion of vintage-inspired details with fresh and modern styling.

Sheer Layers

The naked dress and its many iterations lives on, and is an especially popular spring dress trend for 2025 as people gravitate to wearing less in general. “Soft transparency has been creeping into fashion the last few seasons, but I’m expecting to see layered organza and tulle take center stage,” says Behnke. “The look is a nice combo of romantic and modern. Try layering a dress over a slip for a crisp and polished look.” He says you could make it more casual by pairing sheer textures with more structured outerwear.

Vivid Monochromaticism

Monochromatic looks have been trending for a bit, but there’s been a fixation on soft neutrals. Lim says that in spring 2025 we’ll see a switch to vivid, primary hues. Think cherry red (as mentioned above) along with cobalt blue and sunshine yellow.

“Influenced by social media and street style, these bold dresses feature striking colors and sleek silhouettes to make a statement,” says Lim. “Use neutral-colored accessories like black micro bags or beige slingbacks to ensure the focus remains on the color of the dress.”

Girly Utility Dresses

Finally! A spring dress trend that’s giving us exactly what we want: more pockets. “This is coming from the trend of combining function and fashion, and I personally love this,” Bennie says. “These are dresses that have things like oversized pockets, belted waists, and durable fabrics. It’s practical and stylish. I’d pair it with chunky sandals or ankle boots. You could also add a crossbody bag to lead into the utility aesthetic.”
