‘The Holiday’ Cottage Isn’t Real, But You Can Stay in an Authentic Replica—And You Better Book Now

When it comes to Christmas classics, there aren’t many films more comforting than The Holiday. While you might start the movie for its heartwarming story (and a young Jude Law), you likely stay for Iris’s (played by Kate Winslet) cozy English cottage. You might have even dreamed of what it would be like to spend the holiday season there yourself—making trips to the local corner shop and having solo dance parties to Mr. Brightside, as Cameron Diaz’s character Amanda does. But you’d be disappointed to discover the cottage doesn’t exist—at least as of now.
When Can I Stay in the Cottage?
Coming October 2025, you’ll be able to book a stay at an exact replica of the fictional cottage. Not only does the house itself perfectly embody the Nancy Meyers aesthetic, but it’s set in a charming, small Georgia town that looks like it came straight from the director’s imagination.
“One of the things that really drew me to the area, because I’m not from here, is that it really is a lot like a Hallmark movie,” says Lucy Small, designer and builder of the Holiday Cottage. “Just a picture-perfect, romcom little town. And so I really wanted to do something like a project of my own where it would really play into that.”
The secluded farm property is located in Gilmer County, Georgia, though there’s no official address because the home has yet to be built. An hour away is another small town Dahlonega, which has been rated as one of the most festive Christmas towns.
True to the movie and a typical Cotswolds village, it has all the elements you’d envision: cute brick buildings, horse-drawn carriages, and small shops.
“There’s just so much to do here in the fall and the winter—there’s festivals and tree lightings, parades and apple picking, and all this kind of stuff,” Small says. “It lends itself very well to like a movie plot, frankly.”
The Holiday Cottage
The Cottage Interior
From a classic sloped ceiling to the iconic bathtub, Small focused on the details to get the replica as close to the real deal as possible. The color palette, floral furniture, and small, old-school appliances all mimic the cottage style featured in The Holiday.
“It’s not necessarily maximalist, but they definitely styled the house to match Kate Winslet’s character, which is very frumpy—down to the use of so many browns,” she says. “They made her kind of seem like a grandma.”
Unlike Amanda, who lives lavishly in Los Angeles, Iris is not meant to be fashion-forward. Her home’s design is meant to represent her cozy style and where she’s at in life (sort of given up).
Amanda’s mansion is the opposite, reflecting her desire for perfection. While it’s beautiful and immaculate, it doesn’t have the warmth the cottage does—it might not be somewhere you’d want to spend a romantic holiday.
The cottage also reflects how the pendulum has swung from polished spaces to a more personal style that’s all about comfort.
“I do think now there’s been this total rejection of what was very popular in the 2015 era, which was everything white—gray floors, white kitchens, white cabinets—that whole modern farmhouse, builder white look is just so out,” Small says.
The re-creation does have a bit more of a modern touch, though. There’s an extensive list of amenities, which include (but aren’t limited to) a game room, BBQ facilities, a hot tub, and, of course, a fireplace.
As of now, the Holiday Cottage is booked out four months in advance, with it opening its doors every weekend starting October 1, 2025. Once they start rolling out promotions on social media, Small expects it to fill up fast. Because there are only so many weekends in the year, she recommends booking far out in advance, and if you need to cancel later, you can. Cancelations made over 30 days before your stay will get you a full refund.
And if Small could re-create a home from another movie? She’s going with another classic: Practical Magic.
