Tori Spelling shares weird unhealthy habit, ‘I hate water’
Tori Spelling compares herself to a cactus.
The actress has a confession: she absolutely hates water. In fact, she avoids drinking it at all costs, opting for coconut water, soda, or—on especially stressful days—ginger ale instead.
“I don’t drink water. And when I say I don’t drink water, I don’t drink water,” Spelling, 51, revealed on the March 11 episode of her MisSPELLING podcast.
“How I’m still living, no one knows. I’m like a cacti. Just water me once in a while, and I somehow survive. But I have an aversion to it.”
If that wasn’t quirky enough, the 90210 alum also shared that she has a long-standing suspicion of drinks handed to her by others.
Recalling when her ex, Dean McDermott, recently gave her a ginger ale, her first thought wasn’t gratitude—it was potential poisoning.
“I’m Aaron Spelling’s daughter, hello,” she joked, name-dropping her late father, the mastermind behind iconic TV dramas like Dynasty, Beverly Hills, 90210, and Melrose Place. “The creator of drama-rama storytelling.”
McDermott, understandably confused by her reaction, reassured her, saying, “‘You’re the mother of my children. Why would I want to poison you?’ And I was like, ‘Listen. It’s not personal. I think this about everybody.’”
Apparently, this isn’t a new habit.
Spelling recalled that as a child, whenever her mother, Candy, would give her medicine—often crushed up in Coke syrup—she would still ask, “What’d you put in here? Like, what are you giving me?”
Her mother’s exasperated response? “What, you think I’m trying to poison you?”
“This goes back to childhood,” Spelling admitted.
“This crazy, irrational fear of handed-over liquids from other people. I don’t drink water. I don’t call it a fear of water. I just like to say I hate water. I have an allergy to water.”
Despite her aversion, Spelling made an exception when she was pregnant, drinking water for the sake of her five kids—Liam, 17, Stella, 16, Hattie, 13, Finn, 12, and Beau, 8.
“You have to hydrate the baby growing in you. But in my mind, I was like, ‘I’m drinking for them, not myself.’”
These days, she’s experimenting with a new hydration approach.
“I’m trying this new thing since I don’t like water. I’m like, okay, I actually enjoy the taste of coconut water.”
But when it comes to beverages, there’s one thing she has no trouble downing, “I can guzzle, like, a glass of wine in, like, two seconds. No problem,” she quipped. “But I take a few sips of water and swallow gently, and all of a sudden, I’m like, ‘I wanna puke.’”
