This beloved classic, made with urad dal, creamy yoghurt, and tangy imli chutney, is not only a treat for the taste buds but a healthy one too. If you are craving the irresistible flavours of Dahi Vada and want to recreate this simple dish at home in a flash, here is a simple recipe for you.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup urad dal (soaked for 5-6 hours)
  • Oil for frying
  • ½ cup yoghurt
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp cumin powder roasted
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves
  • ¼ tsp black pepper powder
  • ½ tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp black salt
  • Chat Masala

Recipe

  1. To begin, whisk the soaked urad dal batter until it is light and airy.
  2. Heat the oil in a pan over a medium flame. Gently drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil and fry until they turn a beautiful golden brown.
  3. Once cooked, remove the vadas and submerge them in a bowl of salted water.
  4. Repeat the process with the remaining batter.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine the yoghurt, 1 tsp cumin powder, 1 tbsp coriander leaves, salt and black pepper powder.
  6. Now, retrieve the fried vadas from the water and gently squeeze out any excess water.
  7. Arrange the vadas on a serving dish and generously pour the seasoned yoghurt mixture over them.
  8. To finish, sprinkle the remaining cumin powder, chopped coriander, red chilli powder, black salt and a dash of chaat masala for an extra burst of flavour.
