‘Rooms were 1,000 degrees’: Northwestern’s Chris Collins rips Big Ten for hot hotel temperatures
The Northwestern Wildcats‘ Big Ten tournament campaign got off to a good start with a 72-64 win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
But afterward, Northwestern head coach Chris Collins had a lot to say about their hotel stay after the win, when they shot 48.2% from the field.
“The rooms were 1,000 degrees,” Collins said of the temperature of the rooms in the hotel where the team is staying.
Northwestern is staying at the Sheraton Hotel during the Big Ten tournament. The conference normally assigns hotels to teams by seeding, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Northwestern is a No. 13 seed.
Collins, who held a 16-12 regular-season record with Northwestern, ripped into the Big Ten conference for their hotel placement.
“That’s where the league puts you,” Collins said. “Every way they turn, they’re trying to get us.”
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Collins concluded the temperature of the hotel rooms didn’t cool under 85 degrees.
“We’re used to being treated like this by this league,” he exclaimed. “They’ll put us in one that’s hotter if we leave it up to the league.”
Collins then said that the temperature issue was confirmed to be going on before the team arrived.
“[The hotel] said they’ve had this issue for the past 10 days. So that’s what made me frustrated,” he said.
Northwestern will match up with the No. 18 Wisconsin Badgers in the second round of the Big Ten tournament at 2:30 p.m. ET on Thursday.
