Kate Hudson Says She and Matthew McConaughey Were “Flirtatious” on the Sets of Their Rom-Coms

Kate Hudson couldn’t stop gushing over her former co-star and longtime friend Matthew McConaughey during a video interview with Vanity Fair. The actress and star of Netflix’s new hit show Running Point reminisced about working with McConaughey on their beloved 2003 rom-com How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

“It was truly an amazing experience,” she said of their time together on set. “And Matthew just brought it. And he always does.”

The two co-stars became known for their on-screen chemistry in the aforementioned flick and their other movie Fools Gold. Hudson explained where that connection came from.

“With Matthew and I, it is just a very similar type of joie de vivre,” she said, before adding that they also both have flirty personalities. “We love life, we lead with energy, very competitive by nature, we’re competitive with each other, very flirtatious, not afraid to be flirtatious.”

“I think there’s just a similar energy that somehow allowed us to be able to really connect onscreen and fall in love,” she added.

The two reunited on screen in the 2008 movie Fools Gold, which saw them play exes who reunite for a treasure hunt. “It’s like, you have great loves of your life, and then, like, as actresses I think you have great loves in your work,” she said. “And he’s one of my great loves. And I think that just is something that happens when you meet and you feel that chemistry.”

“I feel really lucky that I got to experience that with someone as talented and as fun as Matthew,” she added.

During this week’s episode of The Martha Stewart Podcast, Stewart spoke to Hudson about working with McConaughey—the lifestyle mogul recently starred in an Uber Eats Super Bowl commercial with the actor. Stewart admitted she was initially “scared” of McConaughey’s acting techniques.

“He got me scared actually,” she said. “There I am, I’m a board member of Uber Eats and I’m the one who’s making the Caesar salad, and Matthew—he had to play many characters in that commercial. He is a method actor, I think.”

Hudson laughed adding that she does remember him making “weird sounds. “He makes sounds and does crazy things,” she joked.
