Bella Hadid Put Me on to Coach’s Cool-Girl Bag, and Now I Don’t Go Anywhere Without It

I’ve been completely obsessed with a bag a total of three times in my life. The first was in elementary school, when the third grade It girl showed up to picture day with a colorful Dooney & Bourke bag. The second was in 2019, when I discovered Susan Alexandra’s maximalist beaded bags. And the final was just months ago, when Bella Hadid first carried Coach’s slouchy Brooklyn bag.

It was honestly love at first sight with the oversized hobo bag. While I tend to be drawn to maximalist accessories, I found myself obsessed with how effortlessly cool this no-frills style was. The bag was so simple and practical, I imagined myself throwing everything I owned into the oversized silhouette as I raced out of the door—and at the same time, it was so luxurious-looking thanks to the smooth, perfectly draped leather. The more I thought about it, the more I convinced myself that I needed it.

I was tempted to make an impulse purchase but told myself to sit on it for a little longer. After all, the $495 tote would be a major splurge for me. So I spent an entire month thinking about it, and then another. My hope was that if I kept putting it off, I’d just forget about it, but between my obsessive tendencies and the bag’s TikTok-famous status, that didn’t happen. So after months of longing, I finally got my hands on one in November, and I haven’t put down the tote since.

This bag is now an extension of my arm—if I’m leaving my house, it’s coming with me. That’s in part because of how spacious it is. I always have a giant water bottle on me; this holds that, my laptop, a book, sweater, and all my bottom-of-the-bag miscellaneous items, while the inside pocket is perfect for my wallet, keys, and phone. I’ve flown with it twice for that very reason, and it’s now my go-to personal item.

I also keep reaching for it because the bag, which has a thick shoulder strap and generous drop, sits comfortably on my arm, and has yet to scratch or scuff thanks to Coach’s sturdy natural grain leather. Plus, it makes everything I pair it with look a little cooler; the relaxed silhouette is the perfect finishing touch to everyday jeans and a spring trench coat, but it can also make dressed-up pieces feel more everyday. Suffice to say: Coach’s Brooklyn bag is completely worth the hype.
