Adorned with gold, silver, and brass, this isn’t a seven-star hotel, but Rajasthan’s regal train, the Palace on Wheels. This pride of India, the country’s second most expensive train, offers an unparalleled travel experience. Featuring lavish interiors, vintage furniture, and majestic decor, this train combines the timeless allure of traditional India with contemporary luxury, offering a smooth journey through some of the country’s most picturesque landscapes, including deserts, palaces and lakes.
Enhanced Luxury And Facilities
Palace on Wheels aims to elevate its already lavish offerings. Alongside existing amenities, new features and upgrades are being introduced. The train, comparable to a moving seven-star hotel, accommodates up to 30 foreign tourists, offering them a glimpse into Rajasthan’s diverse heritage.
Bhagat Singh Lohagarh, director of the operating company, has spearheaded the transformation. The Maharaja Restaurant now complements the Maharani Restaurant, radiating a golden theme. A former gym has been converted into a luxurious Presidential Suite, available for a princely sum for a seven-day journey.
Prioritising Safety
Safety is paramount, with the entire train kitchen electrified, ensuring fire safety. Now food is prepared on an electric stove instead of the gas stove. Smoke detectors have been installed in every compartment for added security.
A Royal Welcome And Itinerary
The train’s itinerary begins with a departure from Delhi to Jaipur, followed by a morning departure to Sawai Madhopur the next day. After a full day there, the journey continues to Chittorgarh, then moves on through Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, and Bharatpur, ending at the Taj Mahal in Agra.
Upon arrival at Mandore Railway Station in Jodhpur, tourists are greeted with a warm, traditional Rajasthani welcome, complete with a royal band. Throughout the day, passengers embark on a scenic tour of Jodhpur. Thus, departing from Delhi, the train travels through Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, and Jodhpur before returning to Delhi via Bharatpur and Agra. The Palace on Wheels completes 32 trips each season.

The train boasts 39 deluxe rooms, two super deluxe rooms, and a presidential suite. Guests enjoy the services of a personal butler and a dedicated guide, along with a Volvo coach for city excursions.
A highlight is the onboard restaurant, serving a delectable array of Rajasthani cuisine. For relaxation, a spa is also available to guests.
