Amanda Seyfried revealed a few shocking reasons for turning down a role in Guardians of the Galaxy.

During the Thursday, March 20, episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Mean Girls star admitted that she feared taking on the Gamora role in the original 2014 Guardians of the Galaxy as it could put her career at risk.

“Being a part of the first Marvel movie that bombs ain’t good for your career,” she shared. “I thought that because this was about a talking tree and a talking raccoon that it was gonna be Marvel’s first bomb and that Chris Pratt and I would never work again. I was wrong.”

Apart from that, the gruelling makeup process required to play a green alien, the challenge of living and shooting in London “for six months out of the year,” and a new movie offer were a few other key factors that influenced Amanda Seyfried, 39, to reject the role.

“There was another movie that I really wanted to do with Seth MacFarlane called A Million Ways to Die in the West,” she revealed. “It felt like a really good opportunity.”

Despite the film’s massive success—it earned $772 million at the worldwide box office—the Mamma Mia! actress says, “I love that I was able to stay with my gut.”

Seyfried is happy for Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana, who secured the roles of Star-Lord and Gamora, respectively, as things worked out incredibly well for them.

The newly minted Oscar winner, 46, portrayed the anti-hero daughter of Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
