Chaitra Navratri 2025 Day 5: Chaitra Navratri, also called Vasantra Navratri or Rama Navratri usually falls in the month of March or April. This year, the festival will begin on March 30 and conclude on April 7. Each day is dedicated to a specific form of Goddess Durga. The fifth day is dedicated to Goddess Katyayani, the fierce manifestation of Maa Durga.

Goddess Katyayani Significance
The fifth day of Navratri is dedicated to the warrior Goddess, Maa Katyayani, who stands as a symbol of fierce determination and strength among the Nava Durga’s manifestations. Goddess Katyayani personifies the fiercest incarnation of Goddess Durga. She is considered to have been born to end the evil spirits from Earth.
The Goddess rides a lion and holds a sword, trident, lotus and other divine weapons in her hands. All the deities are said to have given their weapons to Maa Durga to honour Maa Katyayani. Several gods gifted powerful weapons to Maa Durga.
Lord Shiva gave his Trishul, Lord Vishnu offered his Sudarshan Chakra, Varuna provided a conch shell, and Vayu gave a bow and arrow. Lord Brahma presented a rosary and water pot, while Lord Vishwakarma also contributed many weapons to Maa Durga.
Her fierce and radiant appearance is a symbol of her power and authority in combating evil forces. Her lion mount signified bravery, courage, and strength.
She was created as a powerful form of Goddess Durga to destroy the demon Mahishasura and restore cosmic balance.
Her name comes from her father’s name, Katyana. She is also referred to as Katyayani Devi or Katyayani Mata.

The colour of the day is yellow which symbolises Goddess Katyayani’s vigour, vitality, and power.

- Wake up early in the morning, clean the house, take a holy bath and start the puja ritualsLight an earthen candle with ghee in front of Goddess Katyayani
- Offer fresh red hibiscus flowers, vermillion, fruits and sweets
- Offer five shringaar items to the Goddess – haldi, sindoor, saree, mehendi and bindi
- Chant Goddess Durga and Goddess Katyayani mantras
- Devotees can break their fast after offering bhog prasad to the Goddess.
