I Wore My Sneakers to the Ground, but This $15 Unsexy Hack Made Them Feel New Again

I Wore My Sneakers to the Ground, but This $15 Unsexy Hack Made Them Feel New Again

I rarely fall in love with a pair of sneakers; I tend to wear the shoes out of necessity, not because they look good. However, that changed last year when I bought a pair of now-discontinued New Balance RC30s. I was shocked to find myself wanting to wear them thanks to the style’s retro look, bold color, and, of course, comfort. The only issue with liking just one pair of sneakers, though, is that it doesn’t take long to wear them to the ground.

By winter, my most-loved sneakers were starting to cause foot pain. Since I couldn’t purchase a new pair, I felt stuck—until I remembered the comfy (albeit unsexy) shoe hack my fellow fashion editors swear by: shoe inserts

With little effort or money, I managed to revive my beloved sneakers with Dr. Scholl’s $15 Walk Longer Insoles. While inserts might be something you associate with your grandparents, they shouldn’t be slept on. They’re beyond easy to use and make an immediate difference in your shoe’s comfort.

I didn’t realize how worn out my sneaker’s insoles were until I pulled them out; once a Temperpedic bed for my feet, they were now flat and lifeless. The Dr. Scholl’s inserts, on the other hand, were thick and cushiony with major support at the arch and heel. The insoles are one size fits all, but you can trim them to your preferred fit.  It only took me about five minutes to cut them to be the exact right size and shape for my sneakers.

After inserting the Dr. Scholl’s insoles, I was able to walk miles in my formerly run-down shoes with no aches or pains; they were soft and supportive again. But I’m not the only one who’s had their shoes changed by these insoles—more than 1,600 shoppers swear by this product for making uncomfortable footwear feel like “walking on bouncy clouds.” One fan called them a “lifesaver,” explaining that they relieved the foot pain they’ve been experiencing for years. Someone else even said the inserts helped them comfortably walk 10 miles a day during their vacation.

The Dr. Scholl’s Walk Longer Insoles are the $15 upgrade every uncomfortable shoe needs. Below, shop even more editor and shopper-favorite insoles.
