Adventures on foam: we review The Simba Hybrid Mattress
If you’re staring at your screen, debating whether or not to buy that new mattress, you’ve come to the right place. For months on end I’ve found myself in the midst of that very dilemma, going back and forth about whether or not to replace the mattress I bought in a panic alongside my (quite ugly) IKEA bed. The mattress was £300, so not an insignificant amount of money, but deeply uncomfortable, creating a water bed effect each and every time my partner rolled over or even breathed a little too deeply. It was obviously not the right mattress for us, but navigating the minefield of online mattress shopping was a little too much to face.
Enter Simba. Too good to pass up, when I was offered the chance to review the Hybrid Pro, I leapt.
Simba’s Hybrid Pro: is it worth buying?
Let’s start at the very beginning, Simba’s Hybrid Pro is one of their ‘hybrid’ family: a line of mattresses that combine layers of springs and layers of foam. The pro was once the most high tech of the group, however, Simba have now launched a more luxe version, called the Hybrid Luxe.
The Pro is a little more affordable, and has pretty much the same make up as the Luxe, complete with seven layers of mattress making stuff. It uses 5,000 of their patented, trademarked, copyrighted Aerocoil springs, a breathable sleep surface, foam, as well as a thick layer of wool to create the very best mattress in the business. The wool layer is particularly important as it vastly improves the mattress’s ability to regulate temperature and wick moisture away from the skin (you can read all about wool bedding here). There’s also a layer of ‘edge-to-edge’ support in built, which means if your partner tosses and turns in their sleep you won’t be disturbed.
Those with environmental concerns will be pleased to hear that Simba’s pillows, mattress and duvets are carbon neutral.

Fact file
How much does a Simba mattress cost?
The Simba Hybrid Pro starts at £1,159 for a single, and tops out at £1,829 for a super king. A standard double is £1,749.
Delivery
I would describe Simba’s delivery service as ‘standard’. It’s neither inconvenient, nor is it white glove–it’s somewhere in the middle. The communication was excellent: two days prior to delivery, I was notified of the delivery day, and the morning of I was given a delivery window of one hour which was trackable via a live update page. The mattress is delivered in a reasonably sized box with hand holes cut out so you can manoeuvre it easily. The bed-in-a-box delivery element makes it much less cumbersome than a ‘loose’ mattress delivery.
Simba don’t do their own delivery, as many of our favourite furniture stores do. Mine was delivered by AO, who didn’t bring the box inside, but just left it on the doorstep. My flat is up one flight of winding stairs and we got it inside easily. Something else worth noting is that Simba do not take away your old mattress, so you will need to organise that on your own.
Simba Hybrid Pro Mattress verdict
Simba offers a range of four hybrid mattresses: Simba Essential, Simba Hybrid, Simba Hybrid Pro and the Simba Hybrid Luxe. As you go up the scale, you get more springs and more comfort layers. Whilst I haven’t tried the Luxe, the Pro feels like it’s the very best mattress possible. It’s incredibly comfortable, providing even support throughout the mattress. I no longer feel my partner toss and turn: he even told me he got up in the night for a glass of water, which I had not felt at all. Temperature wise I didn’t overheat – nor was I cold – and I tend to be a very hot sleeper. Ultimately, the Simba Hybrid Pro is great mattress, and well worth its price tag. I’d recommend this mattress over and over again.
