Aimee Lou Wood Is So Much More Than Her Smile
I love the fact that loads of people feel, and this is the bit that makes it worth it, because people are messaging me and talking to me and saying, “It makes me feel like I can just look like me, and I don’t have to look like this cookie-cutter thing.” So I love that, and I love the feeling of it being a bit like a rebellion. But then when it becomes the only thing that’s spoken about, I’m like, “I did a load of work. I did seven months of really hard work.”
I can totally understand how you’d feel that way.
People are saying lovely things, but it does get to the point where it’s like, “Are they that big a deal?” And I hope it doesn’t overshadow my work.
I felt bad because yesterday on the street, it was intense. Every single person that walked past said “Chelsea!” And I was on the verge of a panic attack, right?
Of course—that sounds overwhelming.
I do just find it weird that I’m talking about my own teeth the whole time. I said to one person, “I know you’re being sweet, but I’m finding it weird that someone’s just shouted on the street, ‘I love your teeth.’” It’s not just been the teeth. People have said, “She’s clearly not had Botox or filler or anything.”
Wait, what? Really?
Yeah, there’s been comments where it’s like, “Her face moves. She’s got such an expressive face, and it moves because she hasn’t had any.” I’ve gotten messages like, “Hey, seriously, if you ever want any complementary Botox….” It’s happened with the teeth, too, where people have been like, “I love that you haven’t done anything, but if you ever wanted free braces, I could do them for you.”
So it’s like, “I love your face, and I love how much it moves. However, if you did ever want Botox, you know where to find us.” So it’s like this odd backhanded thing of, “I love it so much, but I can also fix it.” I get a bit of whiplash.
That is…wild.
Some of it is like, you are talking about my looks in a way that we’ve tried to.… There’s been this whole thing that we shouldn’t speak about women’s looks so much, and yet it’s still spoken about a lot. But then, I also have seen it with Walton and his hairline. Why is it such a big deal? If you think back to the fucking ’70s and the movie stars, all of them had fucking receding hairlines, but no one gave a shit.
The real level of acceptance would be not making a big deal out of any of it.
Yeah. I saw this thing where someone had said, “I love how everyone thinks that when they say that Aimee and Walton are hot, they have to make disclaimers. Like, Amy’s hot, even her teeth; Walton’s hot, even his hair!” And it’s like, you could just say we are hot. You don’t need to add these things. But I think the two of us as a pair, lots of people have been like, “You’re both so unconventional.” We spoke about that a lot, me and him are not generic Hollywood-looking people.
