All the Details Mike White Has Hinted at for ‘The White Lotus’ Season 4

Mike White has so far taken The White Lotus viewers to Hawai’i, Italy, and Thailand, and now that season three has reached its finale, there is only one question left on viewers’s minds: where to next? While we don’t know much about the location (or the actors, or the plot) just yet, a few hints have been dropped by both cast and crew members alike. Ahead, everything that we know so far about season four of The White Lotus.

Season 4 will be in another warm locale.

Though very few details have been revealed, one thing’s for sure: season 4 is definitely coming our way. Variety exclusively confirmed the news back in January, and since then, executive producer David Bernad also disclosed that it will not take place anywhere cold.

“I feel confident we will never do a season in the cold,” he said on an episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast. “Mike White is not for it. He is a California guy. He is not built for the cold.”

Mike White has his sights set on Australia.

White also spoke to his ideas for future shooting locations, telling his audience at the Vivid Festival in Sydney that, “My dream would be to hit every continent, so yeah, [Australia] is like its own continent basically.” He went on, “We kind of have to come to Australia if we keep going. It would be so fun. Obviously, there’s a huge wealth of talent here and the beauty is inarguable, so it feels like it checks all the boxes.”

The show’s composer will not be returning.

A few days prior to the season three finale, composer Cristóbal Tapia de Veer dropped the bomb nobody was expecting: he quit. Citing “creative differences” in an interview with the New York Times, Tapia de Veer explained that things had been rocky since season one, with “the show’s creative team repeatedly request[ing] music that was more upbeat and less experimental than the work Mr. Tapia de Veer wanted to produce.”

“I feel like this was, you know, a rock ’n’ roll band story,” he told the publication. “I was like, OK, this is like a rock band I’ve been in before where the guitar player doesn’t understand the singer at all.”

As for the season three theme song that many fans quite simply hated? Tapia de Veer said “there was no direction” from the producers, nor from White.

“People are furious about the change of the theme, and I thought that was interesting,” he mused. “I texted the producer and I told him that it would be great to, at some point, give them the longer version with the ooh-loo-loo-loos, because people will explode if they realize that it was going there anyway. He thought it was a good idea. But then Mike cut that—he wasn’t happy about that.”

He went on, “I mean, at that point, we already had our last fight forever, I think. So he was just saying no to anything. So I just uploaded that to my YouTube.”
