All the Fan Theories About Who Will Die in ‘The White Lotus’ Season 3 Finale

It’s been a season of incest, snakes, and monkeys, but now that The White Lotus is ending its run in Thailand, only one question remains: who will die in the grand finale of season three? One theory, of course, was that the monkeys did it (they were a huge presence in episode one, after all) but that’s since been shut down by Michelle Monaghan, who plays Jaclyn in the show.

“What?!” Monaghan exclaimed when asked about the theory. “What? The monkeys do the shooting? Man, y’all have lost it,” she laughed, adding, “Spoiler alert, like, sorry, the monkeys don’t do the shooting.”

Fair enough. Given that Monaghan described the finale as “super emotional, unexpected, and rewarding,” we can’t help but come up with a few more predictions as to what episode eight has in store. Ahead, all of the best fan theories about who will die in the season three finale of The White Lotus.

Gaitok will take revenge on the Russians.

Gaitok is still reeling from the fact that he is not getting promoted when he spots the Russians at the Muay Thai match with Laurie. Recognizing them as the jewel thieves from episode two, he seems poised to take revenge and show Mook once and for all that he is man enough to date her.

“He won’t end up hitting anyone, and will be fired from his job,” one fan theorized on Reddit. “He tried to access his ‘killer instinct’ to impress Mook, but he just doesn’t have it so he fails in his efforts.”

Another fan disagreed: he will hit his target, but it won’t end well. “I think he’s gonna make the shot, but it will confirm for him that he doesn’t want to be violent and Mook is wrong about him,” they wrote. “He’ll get promoted but feel very conflicted about it.”

Lochlan will drink a poisonous smoothie.

The pong pong tree has been an ominous presence in the Ratliff compound since episode one. With patriarch Tim panicking, one fan guessed that he will use the fruit of the tree to concoct a poisonous smoothie. But will he drink it, or will someone else?

“I think that Lochlan won’t be paying attention to any of this because he’ll be spiraling about ruining both sibling relationships, and will drink the smoothie and die, therefore becoming the body in the water,” one fan wrote.

Another fan had a slightly different theory on TikTok: Tim will make the smoothie intending to kill himself “since he no longer has the gun,” but then Lochlan will pick it up, not because he’s spiraling, but because he thinks it’s Saxon’s, “since based on everything we saw in episode six, we know that Lochlan wants to be Saxon.”

Chelsea is the victim.

HBO

Chelsea has already had two brushes with death this season: first when she was held at gunpoint during the gift shop robbery, and later when she was bitten by a python at the snake farm. If she’s doomed, eagle-eyed fans noted that the clue is in her jewelry: she wears a necklace that says “Stay Gold,” a reference to The Outsiders, in which the protagonist says “Stay gold, ponyboy” right before he dies.

Chloe gets her comeuppance.

Chloe’s most notable role this season was orchestrating the incest scene between Saxon and Lochlan. In some fans eyes, this puts her on Mike White’s chopping block: “Every season the sex predator is the one who dies,” a fan said, adding, “When I’m thinking of season 3, who is the real predator here?”

Rick and Saxon both die.

According to one fan on Reddit, episode one contains all the clues we need to decipher who will die in the finale. The victims? Both Rick and Saxon, neither of whom accept the bracelets when they arrive in Thailand.

“Most guests accept a Sai Sin bracelet as they step off the boat,” they wrote. “These bracelets are holy threads that have been blessed by Buddhist monks. They provide safety and protection to their owners.”

Unlike the rest of the guests however, “Rick initially accepts. Then the camera focuses on him in the background as he quietly returns it to the tray. It’s a very intentional scene. Saxon takes the Sai Sin bracelet, sniffs it, then returns it to the tray and wipes his hands in disgust.”

There will be three dead bodies.

HBO

Given Chelsea’s warning that “bad luck comes in threes,” some fans think that there will be not one, but three, deaths. This would also fit with the obsession with trios that White seems to have this season: there’s the Ratliff kids, the Russians, the girlfriends, and the fact that this is season three.

“There’s really no doubt that the biggest continuous theme of season three is literally the number three,” one viewer wrote on PureWow. “So it would make a whole lot of sense to continue that theme with three deaths each perpetrated by a different killer.”

It’ll be the bodyguards versus the Russians.

Despite their rather creepy presence at the White Lotus resort, the body guards have had little action thus far in season three. Perhaps that will all change in episode eight: “I feel the bodyguards might be clashing with the Russians and that’s what turns out to be the shooting scene,” one fan wrote.
