Bella Hadid’s Straight-Off-the-Plane Outfit Featured This Rich-Looking Spring Staple

I don’t know about you, but travel is all that’s been on my mind as of late. Maybe it’s the impending warmer weather that always sparks a little nostalgia for those summer break days, or maybe it’s because my Instagram feed is flooded with people on spring break (hint: it’s both!). Regardless, I’m prepping my trips for the next few months, like, now. And, as if Bella Hadid heard my most recent travel intentions, the supermodel was spotted at the airport wearing the only outfit I plan on styling on and off board. Thank you, Bella!

The model recently deplaned wearing a comfy-chic look that consisted of classic staples (ahem, a black hoodie, black pants, and black leather booties), but rather than looking like a bleh airport outfit, Hadid dressed it up with the addition of one simple staple: a trench coat. I’ve waxed poetic about trench coats before, and I won’t stop, because I truly think it’s a classic outerwear pick everyone should own—whether for spring walks, Sunday brunches, or, well, plane rides.

Naturally, Hadid travels a lot for her job; I can only imagine she’s jet-setting off to ten different places in a week (maybe a slight exaggeration, but you get the idea). When you’re 30,000-feet above the ground that frequently, and have to trek through TSA as often as you set foot in your local Starbucks, you know a thing or two (or ten) about travel, with a good travel outfit being top of that list.

A simple trench coat can totally change a look, and Hadid’s outfit is proof. The inherently refined staple, which has also been worn by Amal Clooney, Hailey Bieber, Angelina Jolie, and Jennifer Garner, is about as versatile as outerwear gets. Not to mention it’s easy to wear—you really don’t have to think about what to style it with, because it goes with everything. It obviously adds a classic touch to whatever you’re wearing, too. In Hadid’s case, it was a comfort-leaning travel combo, but it’s also a smart packing essential because it’s lightweight and foldable, so it doesn’t take much space. Most are also designed with water-repellent fabric, adding a functional element that’s essential for this time of year.

While the season of heavy outerwear is (hopefully) behind us, it’s not quite leave-the-house-without-a-jacket weather yet. And I’m okay with that, because this means I get to take my trench coats—yes, I have multiple—out for a spin. Shop some of the styles I plan on taking around the world with me, below.
