Candace Cameron Bure reveals reason behind ‘The Masked Singer’ participation

Candace Cameron Bure did it for Bob Saget.

The Full House alum recently revealed the touching reason she finally agreed to compete on The Masked Singer after turning it down four times.

During the March 26 episode of the Whine Down with Jana Kramer podcast, Bure—who had just been unmasked as Cherry Blossom on season 13 of the hit competition series—admitted that singing in front of people is her worst nightmare.

“I’m so terrified of singing in front of people,” she confessed to host Jana Kramer, who was joined by her husband, Allan Russell. “But I finally was like, ‘You know what? I’m just gonna do it. I’ll get over the fear.'”

But there was more to her decision than just conquering stage fright.

Bure shared that a big part of saying “yes” was the chance to honor her late Full House co-star and dear friend, Bob Saget, who passed away in 2022 at the age of 65.

“When I really started thinking about it, Bob was such a special part of the show, and he was in the first episode that I ever watched, not knowing it was him,” she said, recalling the moment she unknowingly witnessed Saget’s Masked Singer reveal back in 2020.

“I’m sitting on my couch and I’m like, ‘What is this crazy show?'”

Her reaction when she realized it was Saget under the Squiggly Monster mask? Pure excitement.

“That’s Bob!” she said, describing how she jumped on her couch “like Tom Cruise with Katie Holmes.” She added, “I was like, ‘That’s Bob! This is amazing!’ And I kinda just loved it from then on out because he was the introduction for me to the show.”

Saget, who had to keep his Masked Singer identity under wraps at the time, once joked to Entertainment Weekly about how Bure figured him out before his official unmasking.

“I have a video of … Candace and she goes, ‘Oh my God. That’s you on The Masked Singer, isn’t it?'” he recalled.

“This is a video she sent me of her screaming, ‘That’s you! I know you! I know how you dance. I know how you sing. That’s you! Oh my God, I can’t believe you’re on The Masked Singer! Oh my God!'”
