Chaitra Navratri 2025 Day 1 Maa Shailputri: Chaitra Navratri’s auspicious occasion is around the corner. Also known as Vasant Navratri, the 9-day-long festival features lively rituals, fasting and cultural performances throughout the country. The festival embodies devotion and community spirit and is celebrated with joy and fervour. During these nine days of Navratri, Hindu devotees worship nine forms of Goddess Durga. Beginning on March 30, the festivities will culminate on April 7 with Kanya Pujan, according to Drik Panchang.

Chaitra Navratri Day 1: Who is Maa Shailputri?

The first day of the nine-day festival is dedicated to Mata Shailputri. This day indicates the beginning of Navratri fasting and spiritual purification. Goddess Shailputri is the first incarnation of Maa Durga, and her worship on the first day holds immense importance.

After the self-immolation as Goddess Sati, Goddess Parvati was born as the daughter of Himalayan king Himavat and Maina.

In Sanskrit, Shail translates to mountain, and due to this, the goddess was known as Shailputri, the daughter of the mountain.

Chaitra Navratri Day 1: Shubh Muhurat

The most auspicious muhurat for Ghatasthapana on Navratri Day 1 is from 06:13 AM to 10:22 AM, and the Ghatasthapana Abhijit Muhurat is from 12:01 PM to 12:50 PM. The pratipada tithi begins at 4:27 PM on March 29 and ends at 12:49 AM on March 30.

On this day, worship Maa Shailputri wearing an orange colour on Sunday. This colour bestows the person with qualities such as exuberance and warmth. Donning an orange-coloured dress will fill the person with positive energy and keep them upbeat as they celebrate Navratri.

Maa Shailputri is the personification of Mother Nature and embodies the powers of Lord Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Devotees worship Maa Shailputri to seek spiritual enlightenment and inner strength. By performing the rituals, devotees are blessed with purity, stability, and strength with rituals associated with the root chakra. It brings people together and fosters collective devotion.

Chaitra Navratri Day 1: Puja Vidhi

Wake up early, take a bath and put on fresh clothes, preferably in the colour associated with the day.
Clean the puja area properly and decorate it with flowers.
Now, prepare a Kalash with water, supari (betel nut), coins, and doob (grass) for making the arrangements.
The next step is to lay five mango leaves on the Kalash and put a coconut on it.
On a raised platform or an altar set in the eastern direction, place a red cloth and place an idol or image of Mata Shailputri.
Now begin the puja by initially praying to Lord Ganesha to help eliminate or avoid any disturbances.
Offer new jasmine flowers, dhoop, agarbatti and kumkum to the goddess.
Pour ghee into a diya, light it and place it on the side of the Kalash.
Chant the mantra and perform aarti to invoke divine blessings.
Once the puja is done, distribute the prepared bhog.

On the first day of Navratri, the Kalash Sthapana (Ghatasthapana) ritual is performed to invoke the blessings of Maa Shailaputri. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the essential samagri (items) for the rituals:
