Chaitra Navratri 2025 Day 5: Today, April 3, is the fifth day of Chaitra Navratri. Devotees across India will worship Goddess Skandamata, the mother of Lord Skanda (Kartikeya). Goddess Skandamata is the fifth manifestation of Goddess Durga who is depicted as seated on a lion, carrying lotus flowers in her hands and holding Lord Skanda (Kartikeya) in her lap.

The Goddess symbolises motherhood, protection, and wisdom. Worshipping her is believed to bless devotees with intelligence, prosperity, and liberation from sufferings. Media reports stated that she is also known as Goddess Padmasana because she is often depicted sitting on a lotus.

Astrologically, planet Budha (Mercury) is governed by Goddess Skandamata. Seeking her blessings can help improve communication skills, intellect, and decision-making abilities.

Chaitra Navratri 2025 Day 5: Shubh Muhurat for Skandamata Puja

Performing the rituals at an auspicious time is believed to enhance its spiritual benefits. As per Drik Panchang, the Panchami tithi will be from 11:02 PM on April 1 to 08:19 PM on April 2.

Brahma Muhurat: 04:58 am to 05:45 am

Amrit Kalam: 06:39 am to 08:06 am

Vijaya Muhurat: 02:46 pm to 03:35 pm

The devotees should consult their local Panchang for region-specific timings as well.

Chaitra Navratri 2025 Day 5: Rituals for Worship

Firstly, the devotees take a bath early in the morning, wear clean clothes and make a pledge (Sankalp) to observe the fast with devotion. Following this, they set up an idol or picture of the Goddess on a clean platform decorated with a red or a yellow cloth.

Once the altar has been set up, devotees light a ghee lamp and offer flowers, coconut, bananas, and sweets. They perform an aarti after which devotees recite the Skandamata mantra and offer prayers with complete devotion.

Chaitra Navratri 2025 Day 5: Essential Offerings

To carry out the Skandamata Puja, devotees should have some essential puja materials which include an idol or photograph of the Goddess. This should be set in the puja area with a kalash of holy water topped with mango leaves and a coconut. Yellow flowers, especially marigolds, are essential.

Incense sticks, camphor and ghee lamps (diyas) are also important. Devotees make offerings often bring fruits, sweets and coconut. A red or yellow cloth is also essential to the puja.

Reciting the following mantra with devotion is believed to bring peace, wisdom, and protection:

Additionally, devotees also chant the Prarthana (prayer):
