Chaitra Navratri 2025 Ghatasthapana: Chaitra Navratri, one of the most prominent festivals among Hindus, is dedicated to honour Goddess Durga. Celebrated for nine consecutive days, the festival witnesses devotees worshipping Goddess Durga and performing Ghatasthapana to invoke the presence of Goddess Shakti in a Kalash (sacred pot). It falls in the month of Chaitra (between March – April). This year, it will begin from Pratipada Tithi, on March 30 and will end on Navami Tithi i.e., on April 6.

Ghatasthapana 2025: Shubh Muhurat

Ghatasthapana, also known as Kalash Sthapana, is considered the most significant ritual to mark the beginning of the Navratri festivities. According to Vedic scriptures, the ritual must be performed during a specific time frame to ensure auspicious results.

Performing Ghatasthapana at the shubh muhurat will bring peace and prosperity to the household. The factors considered to determine the time include the position of the Sun, sunrise and sunset.

Ghatasthapana 2025: Procedure For Kalash Sthapana

Follow these steps to perform Kalash Sthapana at home:

  1. Pick the Right Muhurat: Ensure you are performing Ghatasthapan at the right muhurat which mostly falls during the first one-third of the day when Pratipada Tithi is active.
  2. Prep up Kalash: Next, take a copper or brass pot and clean it. After cleaning, fill it with water and place some coins, betel leaves and grains. Place a coconut on its top and wrap it with a red cloth. Furthermore, secure it with a sacred thread (mouli) to symbolise purity and protection.
  3. Set Up the Area: Pick a sacred spot in your house, preferably in your prayer room. Spread a fresh cloth or mat on the floor where the Kalash is to be kept.
  4. Sow the Barley Seeds: Take a clay pot filled with mud. Sow barley seeds in it and sprinkle water. Place the Kalash in between the pot and keep it in the center of the Kalash Sthapana area and the growing barley symbolises growth, prosperity and well-being.
  5. Invoke the Goddess: Light a diya (lamp) and some incense sticks to invoke the goddess by chanting prayers dedicated to Goddess Durga.
  6. Offer Flowers and Sweets: Use flowers to decorate Kalash and offer sweets or fruits as prasad. Furthermore, you can also place nine different grains or pulses in front of the Kalash.
  7. Worship Regularly: Throughout nine days of Navratri, offer fresh flowers, light a diya and recite Durga Saptashati or other devotional hymns daily.
