The Tamil Nadu Government has unveiled the Chennai Esports Global Championship (CeGC), the first global esports tournament initiated by an Indian state. Set to take place in Chennai later this year, the event will feature top international teams competing across multiple game titles. This represents a major step in Tamil Nadu’s efforts to elevate esports to global standards.

Spearheaded by the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department, which has been allocated ₹562 crore in the 2025-2026 state budget, CeGC reinforces Chennai’s position as a premier esports hub. While game titles and tournament details are yet to be revealed, this initiative builds on Tamil Nadu’s commitment to fostering esports and engaging its growing youth audience. Overall, Tamil Nadu hopes to be a future contender in global esports events.
