Clean the Sky – Upcycled Yellowtail Fish Leathers

Japanese seafood company Nissui Corporation has officially announced that it will begin test sales of “namino leather,” a new material derived from the skin of farmed yellowtail kingfish. The fish used to create namino leather come from Nissui’s subsidiary, Kurose Suisan, which operates a year-round breeding and hatching program. The company raises Kurose Yellowtail in the pristine fishing grounds of Miyazaki and Kagoshima prefectures in southern Japan, ensuring high-quality production.

Once harvested, the yellowtail are processed at Nissui’s facilities before being distributed both domestically and internationally. By repurposing fish skin—a byproduct of seafood processing—into a durable and stylish material, Nissui is offering a sustainable solution that bridges the gap between both the seafood and fashion industries.
