David Chang Says This ‘Handy’ Tool Saved Him in the Kitchen, and It’s on Sale for Less Than $10

I love to cook and my husband loves to host, so we naturally throw a lot of dinner parties. I go big on these occasions, pulling out all the stops with elaborate dishes ranging from chicken biryani to grilled lamb chops. My menu often outgrows my tiny kitchen, turning it into a maze of stacked bowls drying on countertops, hot pans bubbling on the stove, and dirty dishes crowding the sink. I can’t even begin to count the number of times I needed to strain something and I couldn’t because all of my colanders were dirty.
Apparently, this frustrating phenomenon isn’t limited to obscure recipe developers because a few years ago, none other than Chef David Chang posted a video to one of his Instagram profiles with the same complaint. His fix? Kitchen Gizmo’s Snap N’ Strain Clip-On Colander. I’ve yet to try it myself, but it supposedly “saved” his “ass” a few times while cooking and is on sale for less than $10. With a recommendation this impressive and a price point this low, it seems I can’t afford not to buy it.

After putting this gadget through its paces, Chang discovered that it works best when dealing with ingredients like noodles, as opposed to smaller grains like rice or quinoa. In addition to pasta, I could see this coming in handy should you ever need to drain boiled potatoes, large beans, corn on the cob, and the like. The larger and thicker the ingredient, the better.
Based on the above description alone, you’re probably thinking to yourself that this Kitchen Gizmo product sounds like a slightly worse version of a regular colander with no limitations. You would be correct if it weren’t for its much slimmer profile and flexible silicone design, both of which make it a game-changer in a small kitchen. It won’t take up a lot of space in your drawers and is heat-resistant up to 400°F, dishwasher-safe, and capable of clipping onto bowls, pans, and pots of different sizes.
Such versatility quickly convinced Chang of its merits, as it did over 28,000 Amazon customers. One impressed shopper even wrote that despite being “skeptical at first…this clip-on strainer made it so easy to strain the water in one easy step,” adding that it solves the problem of tossing food from pot to colander and back again. They highly recommend it, just like thousands of others.
Such a simple design hides a sneakily impressive tool, which is why I’m grabbing one of Kitchen Gizmo’s compact colanders while it’s less than $10 — and so should you.
