Dedicated Multiplayer Chat Features

Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 console introduces a new feature called GameChat, designed to enhance communication and interaction among players. This feature is activated via the “C” button on the updated Joy-Con controllers and allows users to engage in voice and video chat while playing games. GameChat supports up to 12 participants in a single session, with the option for up to four users to share their game screens simultaneously. The system includes a built-in microphone with noise-canceling technology, ensuring clear audio during gameplay. Additionally, players can connect a compatible USB-C camera, sold separately, to enable video chat functionality.

GameChat is integrated into the Nintendo Switch Online service, which is required for its use after March 31, 2026. Until that date, the feature will be available for free to encourage adoption. The screen-sharing capability allows users to display their gameplay in real-time, even if participants are playing different games. This functionality aims to create a more connected and interactive gaming experience. GameChat represents a significant step forward for Nintendo in incorporating modern communication tools into its gaming ecosystem, aligning with the growing demand for integrated social features in gaming platforms.
