If your morning isn’t complete until you’ve had a cup of coffee, check the label on your grounds. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of 692 cases of ground coffee sold in 15 states.
The recall was initiated on March 13, 2025, and affects Our Family Traverse City Cherry Decaf Ground Coffee, packaged in 12-ounce bags. The recalled product has a UPC of 0 70253 11080 1 and a best-by date of August 3, 2025.
On March 25, 2025, the FDA classified the recall as a Class II threat, which is “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
Per the FDA, the product was recalled because a portion of the ground coffee was mislabeled as decaffeinated. While decaffeinated coffee still contains some caffeine, it has significantly less than regular coffee. According to Mayo Clinic, brewed decaffeinated coffee has 1 milligram of caffeine compared to 96 milligrams in brewed regular coffee.
The recalled ground coffee was shipped to distribution centers and retail stores in the following states: Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
While the FDA hasn’t provided guidance on what to do if you have the recalled product in your possession, it’s best to throw away products that have been recalled or return them to the place of purchase.
