Have You Started Your Spring Gardening Yet? 5 Projects You Should Do Right Now

For The Home Depot, spring is their Super Bowl—the time of year when homeowners, gardeners, and DIYers are finally able (and ready) to tackle spring projects, and head to the home improvement store to stock up on all of their essentials.

And according to The Home Depot’s 2025 Spring Project Report, aptly named What Are You Working On?, this season people across the country are most focused on spring cleaning and gardening.

But beyond the purely functional benefits of these and other home projects, the report notes that the majority of Americans see these tasks as a boost to their well-being.

“Seventy-six percent of people surveyed said spring projects help cure ‘spring fever,’ so we’re excited to offer the tools, products and expert advice needed to refresh homes and gardens,” said Billy Bastek, executive vice president of merchandising at The Home Depot, in a press release.

Spring Cleaning and Gardening Top the List

In survey, which The Home Depot conducted across all 50 states with 100 respondents from each state, spring cleaning came first in the list of projects people plan to tackle this season at 68%, with gardening a close second at 67%.

For spring cleaning, it wasn’t regular tasks like deep cleaning the kitchen or cleaning out closets that they were most interested in doing this season—71% will be cleaning their windows and screens, while 64% will be turning to fans and light fixtures.

According to the fact sheet, “80% of spring cleaners say it’s hard to start cleaning projects, but they feel a great sense of accomplishment once it’s done.”

On the gardening side, 70% of people will refresh their plants every season, and 65% say they’ll prioritize weeding and cleaning out their gardens at the top of the gardening season.

And a whopping 94% of the gardeners surveyed said planting flowers, veggies, and herbs that can withstand their local climate is important.

Landscaping, Outdoor Grilling, and Power Tools Make the Cut

Beyond gardening and cleaning, three other springtime projects ranked highest for the homeowners and renters who were surveyed: landscaping and outdoor grilling were tied at 57% and outdoor power tool projects came in at 55%.

Mulching garden beds and general lawn maintenance were some of the most popular projects in landscaping—which makes sense, as spring lawn care is essential for healthier grass through to fall.

For grillers, cleaning their grills and refreshing their grill accessories were the biggest priorities, while mowers and trimmers and power tools for fixing outdoor structures were also popular.
