Houston’s Wilson a game-time call vs. Tennessee
INDIANAPOLIS – Key Houston reserve Mylik Wilson did not practice with the team Saturday after taking a hard fall in the No. 1 Cougars’ win over No. 4 Purdue on Friday night.
Wilson’s status for Houston’s Elite Eight match-up with No. 2 Tennessee is uncertain, as he’s expected to be a game-time decision on Sunday.
“He’s not practicing,” Houston coach Kelvin Sampson said. “He’s back at the hotel. Other than that, I think they’re just observing him.”
Wilson averages 17.5 minutes per game for Cougars, scoring 5.7 points and grabbing 4.1 rebounds per game.
Wilson soared for a rebound in the second half against Purdue and hit the floor hard, appearing as if he hit his head. He went to the locker room for evaluation and did not return.
Wilson is a 6-foot-3 guard who is a strong defender and opportunistic scorer, who had 18 in Houston’s improbable win at Kansas earlier this year. He also scored nine points in Kansas’ Big 12 title win.
In Houston’s first two NCAA tournament games, he played more than 20 minutes. That’s a big void if he’s not ready to go on Sunday.
