When it comes to cleaning my space, it’s important it not only looks tidy but also smells nice—and I don’t mean the fresh notes of chemicals.

Although many cleaning products on the market are effective, they often leave behind an artificial scent that leaves me with a headache or makes me feel nauseated. My space might be clean, but it becomes unenjoyable to be in.

Because of this, I try to prioritize both the function and the smell of the cleaning products I use. Along the way, I’ve found some cleaning products that have become my essentials for leaving my space looking spotless and smelling (actually) fresh—no chemicals required.

Caldrea Dish Soap, Ginger Pomelo Scent, 16 oz

Washing dishes can actually be enjoyable when all you’re smelling are bright notes of ginger and citrus. This Caldrea dish soap removes any leftover food particles and grease in an instant. Once I’m finished cleaning my dishes, I always give my entire sink a quick wipe down, and my kitchen is filled with fragrant aromas.

Mrs. Meyer’s All-Purpose Cleaner Spray, Lemon Verbena, 16 fl. oz—Pack of 3

I’ve been an avid user of Mrs. Meyer’s because the scent of their products is always delicate on the nose, yet they’re still extremely effective at cutting grease, buildup, and soap scum. I personally lean towards citrus notes, like the Lemon Verbena scent, because they uplift my space, making it smell and seem brighter.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve grown up using generic laundry brands, and they’ve always got the job done, but this Brooklinen detergent really changed the game when it came to doing my laundry.
