In India, Vastu Shastra plays a significant role in people’s lives. Whether it is a home or a business establishment, any Vastu defect is believed to negatively impact life, hindering progress and prosperity. Renowned astrologer Pandit Hriday Ranjan Sharma shares insights on how to identify Vastu defects in a house or shop and the remedies to correct them.
How to Identify a Vastu Defect
According to Pandit Hriday Ranjan Sharma, the presence of Vastu defects leads to stagnation in life.
Common Signs Include
- Obstacles in progress and success
- Frequent illnesses in the household
- Delays in marriage and childbirth
- Constant conflicts and disharmony
- Lack of family growth and prosperity
Remedies For Vastu Defects
To rectify Vastu-related issues, the astrologer suggests several traditional remedies, including:
- Releasing fish in flowing water, ponds, or canals
- Feeding dogs and ants
- Supporting the education and marriage of girls through donations
- Serving animals and birds
- Offering water to the Sun (Surya Arghya)
- Performing Tarpan (ritual offerings to ancestors)
He also shares that the colour of the main entrance of the house also plays a crucial role and suggests what colour it should be according to direction:
- East-facing entrance: Orange or golden
- North-facing entrance: Blue or sky blue
- West-facing entrance: White or light yellow
Importance of Stairs In Vastu
Pandit Hriday Ranjan Sharma explains that stairs should follow specific Vastu rules:
- Stairs should be built in the south, west, or south-west direction
- The number of steps should always be odd (e.g., 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13). 17 steps are considered particularly auspicious.
- A store or switch room can be placed under the stairs, but never a shop, toilet, bathroom, bed, or seating area. Stairs should never be in the middle of a house, building, or shop, as this is the ‘Brahma place’ (sacred centre).
Where to Place a Home Temple
For an auspicious prayer area, the temple should be built in the north-east corner of the house. It is especially favourable to install the idol of Lord Shiva or a Shivling in this direction. The entrance of the temple should face east or south. However, Pran Pratistha (life consecration) of Lord Shiva should never be performed inside the house—only pictures or small idols can be kept.
