Kim Kardashian’s Ex Kris Humphries Only Paid for 1/5 of Her 18-Karat Engagement Ring
Kim Kardashian is taking a trip down memory lane and reflecting on her infamous relationship—and 72-day marriage—to Kris Humphries. And, her 18-karat Lorraine Schwartz engagement ring.
During the March 13 episode of her Hulu show The Kardashians, Kim spoke with her younger sister Khloé Kardashian about her engagement rings—past and future. After pondering about what her next sparkler would look like—”I wonder what my next ring shape will be, on my last and final hoorah”—Kim remembered her diamonds of yore.

“Number one was a cushion cut, 14-karat,” she said, in reference to her bling from ex-husband of four years Damon Thomas. Then she moved onto her second ring from her short-lived marriage to Humphries, revealing that she paid for the majority of the emerald-cut rock—that she didn’t even get to keep.
“I didn’t keep that,” she explained. “I was pregnant with [daughter] North [West], still married to him and in order to divorce him, he said I had to give him the ring in my divorce.”
“He contributed a fifth,” Kardashian added of her ex, which shocked her hairstylist Chris Appleton. “Jesus,” he said, before calling the move “savage.”

Jeweler, Schwartz, told Kardashian that it was for the “best” that she let the ring go, though the Skims founder replied, “But I would’ve loved a collection.”
Earlier this season, Kim, who rarely speaks about her exes, got candid about how her sister, Khloé, helped her out after her first divorce from Thomas.
“She got this piggy bank that was as tall as us, it was like a Coke bottle and we would put so much money in it,” Kim remembered. “When I was getting my first divorce, I moved out and I had no money. I was 21, and she was like, ‘Here, you can have my Coke bottle.'”

Kim and Khloé stayed up all night counting the money, which amounted to $6,000. “It was just enough for me to get the down payment on my apartment and pay my first and last month’s rent,” Kim said.
“She was crying in my room. I was just like, ‘OK, I have this Coke bottle,” Khloé recalled. “Let’s take what’s in here, go to the bank and cash it—and let’s use this money for your divorce. I gave her all that I got.”
