LeBron James watches on as Bryce, Sierra Canyon win state title Friday night
Bryce James wasn’t a McDonald’s All American like his big brother Bronny James, and he isn’t a shoo-in to be the heir apparent to his famous father LeBron James. But on Friday night he accomplished something that he could call his own, helping Sierra Canyon School (Chatsworth, Calif.) claim the CIF State Division 1 title, knocking off Lincoln (Stockton, Calif.), 58-53.
It was evident early on that Bryce and the Trailblazers were behind enemy lines as a massive contingent of Trojans fans sporting their bright red colors flooded Golden 1 Center in Sacramento with raucous cheers well before the opening tip.
LeBron, who is currently sidelined nursing a groin strain that he suffered March 8 against the Boston Celtics, made a grand entrance into the arena stylishly underdressed in a gray Trailblazers embroidered sweatsuit to show his support for Bryce and Sierra Canyon amidst deafening screams, stargazing fans and hundreds of failed selfie attempts.
LeBron, his wife Savannah, and their daughter Zhuri made their way over to their courtside seats, stopping to greet celebrities such as Los Angeles radio host Big Boy and Kimora Lee Simmons.
Bryce, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard who committed to Arizona in January as part of the Wildcats’ 2025 class, started cold, going 0-for-5 from the field in the first half and scoring just one point. Sierra Canyon trailed, 27-23 at halftime.
For the season, Bryce averages eight points and 4.2 rebounds a game.
He didn’t shake off the rust in the second half of a tight matchup, but when Bryce Cofield maneuvered into the lane and gave the Trailblazers a two-point lead with under a minute left in regulation, they never relinquished it.
Bryce finished with 3 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Gavin Hightower led the Trailblazers with 15 points. Maxi Adams added 14 points and Cofield posted 11 points.
After the hoisting of the state title trophy, Bryce made his way over to embrace his family, a scene that Trailblazers fans and Trojans fans alike stuck around to witness.
The end of an era for the James crew on the high school scene … for now.
Zhuri, a 10-year-old volleyball star, lies in the waiting.
