Lucy Ducas talks about experience of listening to Taylor Swift music as a friend

Taylor Swift fans finally have an answer for the “Lucy” namedrop in her recent album, The Tortured Poets Department.

In the title track of the album, Swift sings: “Sometimes, I wonder if you’re gonna screw this up with me / But you told Lucy you’d kill yourself if I ever leave / And I had said that to Jack about you, so I felt seen”

Though it was obvious who “Jack” is being referred to in the song – Swift’s frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff – fans had trouble in figuring out the identity of “Lucy”.

The boygenius member set the record straight over who Lucy is to the People Magazine.

“I think it’s fair game to say ‘yes,’ [Swift] actually texted me and asked for my approval,” Dacus said. “I pushed play on the album just like, ‘Oh, this is so crazy.'”

Dacus noted that this was her fist record after meeting and becoming friends with Swift.

She said “listening to a friend’s record feels so much different than a stranger’s record.”

However, she let the fans to speculate the identity of the love interest in the song claiming they’d “kill themselves”.

Prior to the album, Swift was in a six-year-long relationship with British actor Joe Alwyn and a month-long romance with Matty Healy in 2023.

Dacus is also friends with Healy – considered to be the main inspiration for The Tortured Poets Department.
