Meghan Markle’s Freezer Is “Stuffed With” These Frozen Meals for Her Kids

While Meghan Markle’s lifestyle brand As Ever and Netflix series With Love, Meghan often looks like a picturesque, idyllic glimpse into cooking, baking, and feeding one’s family from inside one’s perfectly decorated kitchen, Meghan herself is here to say that sometimes, keeping it simple is best.

In an April 2 interview with The New York Times, the Duchess of Sussex revealed that “When it’s just her and the kids for dinner”—referring to Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet and, apparently, minus one Prince Harry—“she often relies on chicken nuggets, veggie burgers, and Tator Tots (the freezer is stuffed with them),” the outlet reported.

It’s not the first time Meghan—whose Montecito, California lifestyle is certainly aspirational—has appeared deeply relatable as a mom in recent weeks. In a March 3 cover story for People, Meghan said she is “up before my kids” (6:30 a.m., if you’re wondering) and that she loves “making breakfast for my family”—but she kept it real.

Adding that Harry and Archie “both love fried eggs” and “there’s a lot of bacon around here,” Meghan added, “And then sometimes you don’t have time for all that, and you just put a frozen waffle in the toaster and call it a day. And there’s no shame in that either.”

In With Love, Meghan—which premiered season 1 on Netflix last month, with season 2 already shot and dropping on the streaming service later this year—Meghan told friend Mindy Kaling that she “grew up with fast food and TV tray dinners, microwavable kids’ meals,” citing fast food favorites like Taco Bell and Jack in the Box as examples.

In her new interview with The New York Times, Meghan said her favorite after school snack was when she’d visit her Grandma Jeanette and have “Kraft grilled cheese on white Wonder bread. All that butter.”

Meghan (and Harry, too) is still a fan of fast food, In-N-Out Burger in particular, calling it Harry’s “favorite” in a 2022 interview with Variety. “There’s one at the halfway point between L.A. and our neck of the woods,” she said. “It’s really fun to go through the drive-thru and surprise them. They know our order.” (Harry later shared said order with People, telling the outlet that “I order two double-doubles, animal style, fries, and a Coke! And that’s just for me! Meg gets the cheeseburger and fries with sides of jalapeños. I just stick with ketchup and that special sauce of theirs.”

Meghan also told People in its cover story last month that she isn’t opposed to ordering Chinese food instead of cooking sometimes, but added the caveat that “even when I get takeout, I will try to plate it beautifully.”

Though she does cook with frequency—Archie and Lilibet call them “Mama Meals,” she told People—it’s more about balance than perfection. Referring specifically to With Love, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex told the publication, “The series is about doing what you can do, and doing it with love.”
