More than 160,000 bottles of laundry detergent are being recalled for possible bacterial contamination.

Reckitt has issued a voluntary recall for 16,200 50-fluid-ounce bottles of Woolite Delicates detergent due to possible contamination with Pseudomonas species bacteria, which can cause rare but “serious infection.” 

“People with weakened immune systems or external medical devices who are exposed to the bacteria face a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment,” a notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns. “The bacteria can enter the body through the eyes or through a break in the skin.” 

People with healthy immune systems, however, are “usually not affected” by the bacteria. So far no injuries have been reported.

The recalled bottles are white with a light-pink label and cap with lot codes S24364, S24365, and S24366, and were sold exclusively on Amazon in January. The lot code can be found printed on the back of the bottle towards the top.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled Woolite Delicates detergent and contact Reckitt for a full refund. To receive a refund, write your name and “Recalled” in permanent marker on the back of the product, then take a photo with the UPC and lot code visible, and email the photo to ConsumerCare_USA@reckitt.com. 

After a refund is received, dispose of the product by closing the bottle tightly and placing it in household trash. Do not empty the product and do not attempt to recycle the bottle.
