What is Poha?
Dried flattened rice, often known as poha, is a common pantry item in Indian households. In India, these gluten-free flakes are widely used for breakfast and snacks. Poha comes in a variety of forms, including thick, thin, red, and others, and may be found at Indian grocery stores. For this recipe, make sure to use the thick white poha because the thin flakes may get mushy after being rinsed with water.
Poha: Ingredients Needed
- Flattened Rice(Poha)
- Cooking Oil
- Mustard Seeds
- Cumin Seeds
- Curry Leaves
- Green Chillies
- Onion
- Turmeric
- Salt
- Potatoes
- Sugar
- Nuts,Coriander leaves,Bhujiya (For garnishing)
Poha: Steps to Make
- Rinse poha gently with cold water in a strainer, then drain well and set aside.
- In a medium pan, heat the oil over high heat. Pour in the mustard seeds and oil.
- Give the mustard seeds time to sprout. Reduce the heat to medium once the mustard seeds begin to pop, then add the cumin seeds and cook for 10 seconds or until they begin to crackle.
- Next, thoroughly mix in the curry leaves, green chillies, and turmeric.
- Add onions, stir thoroughly, and simmer over medium heat, covered, until they begin to soften, 2 to 3 minutes.
- After that, add the potatoes, salt, and cover and boil for about five minutes, or until the potatoes are cooked through.
- After thoroughly mixing the poha and sugar, cook it for five minutes over low heat, covered, until it is thoroughly heated.
Poha: How To Garnish?
Add some coriander leaves as a garnish and squeeze some fresh lemon juice. For a crispy finish, sprinkle nuts, sev, or bhujia on top. In this chilling winter season, savour hot poha with lemon tea or ginger chai and enjoy your breakfast or evening snacks.
