NewJeans caught in controversy—Did NJZ members meet ‘fan’ behind hate train against BTS, LE SSERAFIM, and ILLIT?

Just a day ago, a South Korean court ruled against K-pop group NewJeans—now rebranded as NJZ—in their bid to terminate their contract with ADOR. The group had announced their departure from the label early last year, citing mistreatment. In response, ADOR took legal action to enforce their contracts and, after accusing the members of attempting to negotiate independent deals without authorization, filed an injunction against them in January.

The court ruled that the members—Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein—who had rebranded and begun managing their own appearances, were prohibited from engaging in any independent activities, including making music or signing advertising deals.

As fans were still coming to terms with this decision, a new controversy erupted on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter). Reports surfaced that some NewJeans members had met with a “fan”— with a large following who was allegedly responsible for fueling hate against BTS, LE SSERAFIM, and ILLIT—all three under HYBE.

NewJeans members meet ‘fan’

Known as “Talytokki” on X, this fan was seen in a photo with NewJeans members Hanni and Danielle, seemingly outside the HYBE building. The exact date the photo was taken remains unclear. According to various users on X, private messages allegedly exchanged between her and the NewJeans members have been circulating online.

Additionally, evidence suggests that her videos on Instagram were reposted by then-ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin. Not only that, but Danielle’s sister, Olivia Marsh—who was recently embroiled in a plagiarism scandal—also liked one of “Talytokki’s” Instagram posts.

Hate against BTS, LE SSERAFIM, and ILLIT

Fans of the three groups—who have been caught in the ongoing NewJeans vs. ADOR controversy—have accused NewJeans fans (Bunnies) of orchestrating hate trains, targeting specific groups or members in an effort to uplift the five NewJeans members.

Many users pointed to “Talytokki” as a key figure in these hate campaigns. She allegedly spread negative news about BTS SUGA’s incident when he fell off his electric scooter, encouraged other fandoms to bash LE SSERAFIM for their singing, and claimed that ILLIT was a copy of NewJeans—despite the two groups having distinct aesthetics, with NewJeans embracing Y2K concepts and ILLIT leaning toward a fairytale theme.

A user named “Flop Kpop” compiled and shared various pieces of “evidence” on their account, prompting more fans of other groups to add their own findings to the controversy.

About NewJeans vs ADOR

NewJeans and ADOR have been locked in a heated dispute since August 2024, when HYBE, ADOR’s parent company, allegedly forced out the group’s mentor and CEO, Min Hee-jin.

The recent court’s ruling has cast uncertainty over the release of NewJeans’ upcoming song, scheduled for Sunday. In response, the group has stated that they will challenge Friday’s decision.

The Seoul court ruled that NewJeans had not “sufficiently proven that ADOR violated a significant duty under their contract,” emphasizing that the label had fulfilled “most of its obligations, including payment.”

“If [NewJeans] unilaterally terminates the contract, ADOR would suffer significant losses. Additionally, if [NewJeans] begins activities under a new name, it could severely damage not only the NewJeans brand but also ADOR’s reputation,” the court’s statement read.
