Prince William Admits He Posts Anonymously on Fan Forums and “Can Be on There for Ages”
Sure, Prince William may be destined to be king someday—but he’s sometimes just a fan on fan sites, posting anonymously about his favorite sports team.
The Prince of Wales is a longtime Aston Villa fan, a football club in the U.K. (better known as soccer here in the U.S.). According to The Telegraph, William revealed that he posts anonymously on Aston Villa fan forums, sharing that he “can be on there for ages” as he shares his own opinions about the team and reads the thoughts of other fans, as well.

Of falling in love with the team, he said, “With the camaraderie among the fans and the chanting and the singing, I just felt like I belonged there.”
“I like going on the forums—I can be on there for ages,” he added. “I listen to what other fans have to say and give them my opinions. I get quite into it, definitely. It’s important to have that debate.” He later said that “the rise of the smartphone” made him even more invested in the club, as smartphones made it possible to track and discuss a team’s progress constantly.
William was actually at Villa Park just a couple of days ago to watch Aston Villa play Club Brugge on March 12, a match Villa won. While his children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis do have Villa jerseys—among those of other clubs—William said he’s not forcing his kids to support his team of choice.

“If I’m home alone with the children, I probably don’t have the pre-match pint, but I do have a bit of superstition about where I sit when I’m watching them,” William said. “If we’re not doing very well, I start moving ‘round the house quite quickly, and I put the children in different positions hoping that it’s going to change our luck.”

In addition to vehemently supporting Villa specifically, William is president of the Football Association, and had the tough task of consoling players after their Euro 24 defeat, which he called “the hardest changing room atmosphere I’ve ever had to walk into.”
He added that England going to the World Cup in 2026 is “definitely possible,” adding that England’s new manager Thomas Tuchel is “exactly the right person” for the role.
