Reese Witherspoon’s Daughter Ava Philippe Just Shared the Cutest Throwback Photo

Reese Witherspoon rung in her 49th birthday yesterday—and her daughter, Ava Philippe, posted the sweetest tribute in honor of her mother’s big day.

The 25-year-old took to her Instagram Stories on Saturday, March 23, sharing a truly adorable throwback photo of a younger Witherspoon hugging Philippe as a toddler. The pair sat in a park strewn with autumn leaves. Witherspoon wore a long-sleeve white top and jeans, while Philippe wore a red dress and matching hair bow. “Happy happy birthday to this phenomenal woman I’m lucky to call my mama,” wrote Philipe across the nostalgic photo, adding,” love you so so much.” Witherspoon later reposted the photo with a smiling-crying emoji.

Philippe also posted a black and white photo of her mother holding an espresso martini.

A few years ago, Witherspoon opened up about how getting a little older had changed her priorities.  “I’m 45. I know who I want to spend time with and who I don’t,” she said to Gayle King in an interview for InStyle. “And that is one of the great things about getting older—it just clears out so much space. I want to be with my mom, my kids, and the people who fill my tank. And everybody else, I wish them well.”

In the same conversation, Witherspoon gushed about her daughter, who, it is often noted, looks an awful lot like her mother. “I’m so proud of her,” she said. “She really rolls with it. I’m sure it’s not easy looking exactly like your mother.”

Last April, the pair attended an event in matching strapless black dresses and statement necklaces and looked more like twins than mother and daughter. A few months earlier, the pair co-ordinated again with trendy sunglasses while attending the Fendi Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2024 runway show.

Last July, however, Philippe made the bold move to dye her hair a deep shade of brunette. “I love just experimenting with what makes me feel good and what makes me feel like I’m having fun with my appearance and nobody else has to get it,” she said to People at the time. “Just, this is what I want to do with myself. And it’s just hair. It grows back.” Instant flashbacks to Witherspoon’s brunette look in Walk the Line.

More recently, Philippe has used her platform to call out online bodyshaming. “Pretty is as pretty does, babes…& bodyshaming is simply toxic behavior. #loveyouasyouare,” she captioned one video. Her mother gave her video her stamp of approval, commenting, “Yes to all of this.”
