Sandra Oh rethinks her ‘hard no’ on returning to Grey’s Anatomy

Sandrah Oh says fans’ love for her iconic character is making her rethink her exit

Sandra Oh isn’t shutting the door on Grey’s Anatomy — at least, not completely.

The actress, who played fan-favourite Dr. Cristina Yang for a decade, once firmly ruled out a return to the long-running medical drama. But in a March 28 interview with Entertainment Weekly, she admitted she’s now uncertain.

“For the longest time, it has always been a hard no. And it’s just… I don’t know. I just don’t know,” Oh said, struggling to find the right words.

She explained that leaving Grey’s was a carefully considered decision. “I knew in my gut that I had done as much as I could,” she said, adding that she took the decision “very, very seriously.”

While Oh remains proud of her character’s send-off, she acknowledged the lasting love for Cristina. “I don’t feel the need to revisit, but I also profoundly understand the audience’s love for this character,” she said.

“That’s the part that makes me just go, hmmm,” she admitted.

Since her departure in 2014, Cristina has been referenced through text messages and letters — an approach Oh fully supports.

“The character should still be there to service the story — absolutely,” she said.

Though she’s not committing to a comeback, Oh’s former co-star Kevin McKidd, who plays Dr. Owen Hunt, is holding out hope.

“I feel like we should try and get Cristina to come back,” he previously told People magazine, adding, “It would be really great television.”
