Shadab wants to set an example for youngsters | The Express Tribune
Pakistan T20I vice-captain Shadab Khan has shared insights into his mindset on playing in different conditions, the evolving role of senior players, and the upcoming challenges with the Pakistan national team.
The all-rounder opened up on playing in diverse conditions centered around the challenges of adjusting to different environments, particularly the windy and bouncy conditions at the University Oval.
“First of all, we have to see the wind,” he said. “Where is it going, it’s very important. But you have to see the boundary dimension as well.”
As a leg spinner, Shadab acknowledged how crucial it is to adapt to both wind and ground dimensions, especially in unfamiliar conditions.
His experience speaks volumes as he emphasized how important it is for players to adapt quickly to such conditions for effective performances.
“We have to assess the condition very well to play on these conditions, hopefully, we assess a bit better than the last game,” he remarked.
As a senior player, Shadab recognizes the impact his actions have on the younger members of the team.
“As a senior player, I wanted to show them because if you’re in the leader group, you wanted to impress the youngsters because they see how you do as a batter, as a bowler, and as a fielder,” he said.
“We have a very young team, and they wanted to prove their selection to everyone and show their talent to the world.”
He added that the team’s intent and motivation were clear, citing how the young players have been eager to demonstrate their skills and grow as cricketers.
“I think we’re very motivated, and we have so many positives,” he said. “The intent that we’re talking about in the last couple of years, so everyone showed that.”
Moreover, he expressed excitement for the upcoming HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 10.
Having enjoyed a successful season under the leadership of Mike Hesson, he is looking forward to the upcoming PSL season.
“Mike came and we won a Championship, and I’m very excited this year as well because next month PSL is starting.” However, Shadab also sees this international tour as an opportunity to grow as a batter, something he feels he hasn’t been able to do enough in his international career.
“Here I wanted to perform as a batter as well because in my international career, I haven’t done that much like I used to do in PSL,” he said. His goal is to replicate the aggressive, confident batting that made him a standout performer in the PSL, bringing that same intensity to the international stage.
