Source: PSG owners finalising Málaga purchase

Qatar Sport Investment (QSI), the owner of Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain, are finalising the purchase of Spanish club Málaga, a source has confirmed to ESPN.

The talks with the Bluejay group (49%) and Abdullah al-Thani (51%) are very advanced at this stage and going well and a full agreement for €100 million could be reached soon sources added.

QSI, who already owns 87.5% of PSG and 21.67% of Portuguese club Braga, will have all 100% of Málaga as the only shareholders.

The Spanish side, currently 15th in the second division, have been in administration since 2019.

Sources added that QSI see Málaga as a huge potential and a big market: it is the 6th biggest city in Spain and will be hosting some games at the 2030 World Cup.

It is also historically a good academy, even if the first team has not performed well since their 2013 Champions League quarterfinals against Borussia Dortmund.

QSI have been negotiating for quite a while for the purchase of Málaga, sources told ESPN, and also want to use the club as a pathway for young Parisians to develop, like it is the case with Braga.

It is not clear how much investment QSI intend to put into the Spanish side at this stage.

QSI have diversified their portfolio lately with the acquisition of some shares in the Washington Wizards in 2023 or in the Audi Formula One team last year.
