Sources: Texans’ Stingley gets record deal for DB
All-Pro cornerback Derek Stingley Jr has agreed to a three-year, $90 million extension with the Houston Texans that includes $89 million guaranteed, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday.
With a $30 million base value per year, Stingley is now the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history.
The deal surpasses the previous record, which was set last week by Jaycee Horn, whose four-year, $100 million extension with the Carolina Panthers averaged $25 million per season.
Stingley had one year remaining on his contract that was worth $5.3 million, in addition to a 2026 fifth-year option.
Stingley has 11 career interceptions over three years, and he allowed 7.6 fewer receptions than expectation in 2024, per NFL Next Gen Stats (second among players with 400-plus coverage snaps).
